The Social Network Sequel: Jeremy Strong Eyed For # 1 to Play Polarizing Mark Zuckerberg
Do you remember The Social Network? The film starred Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, and it told the story of how Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook as an ambitious college student. Now, fifteen years later, a sequel is in production, and it has its eyes on a new star.
The Social Network Sequel
According to Deadline, Jesse Eisenberg, who initially played the META CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the first movie, is not set to return for the sequel. Instead, Jeremy Strong is a top choice to play Zuckerberg. Other possible stars include Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison. The film will be written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the first movie’s Oscar-winning screenplay.
About Jeremy Strong
Jeremy Strong played Rob Cohn in The Apprentice, last year’s biopic of Donald Trump, for which he was nominated for an Oscar. He also played Kendell Roy in the hit series Succession. Clearly, he has experience with stories about corruption and big business. He might very well be a good fit to play Zuckerberg, though fans of the first movie are sure to miss how Eisenberg managed to display pathos and loneliness despite his nastiness.
What is The Social Network Sequel About?
According to Deadline, the movie “is not a straight sequel.” Instead, it “explores the story behind the Wall Street Journal‘s The Facebook Files by Jeff Horowitz, an explosive series of articles published in October 2021 that exposed the inner workings of — and multiple harms caused by — Facebook.” This could mean the film will be an exploration on how Facebook has changed the world, and not always for the better. In the age where social media has taken over our lives, perhaps we need an honest look at how our online world is run. Perhaps The Social Network 2 could even inspire people to put down their phones and remember that there is life beyond the screen.
