The Conjuring Last Rites

The Conjuring Last Rites Trailer: Annabelle Doll Returns, Warrens Battle Demon

Since 2013, The Conjuring franchise has thrilled horror fans worldwide — and now, it all leads to an epic final chapter. Yes, The Conjuring: Last Rites is here to remind us why we double-check dark corners before bed. Spoiler alert? The Warrens are taking one last shot at facing the supernatural, and it’s looking both hauntingly epic and emotionally charged.

Also, an uninvited guest is returning… Annabelle fans, start screaming. She’s back. Of course she is.

What Is The Conjuring: Last Rites All About?

Picture this: it’s 1986, and an older (but undoubtedly wiser) Ed and Lorraine Warren are out of retirement. Why? Well, the Smurl family in Pennsylvania needs help badly. Think “demon in the attic” levels of help. But here’s where it gets juicier (because one cantankerous demon wasn’t menacing enough): Lorraine recognizes this particular demon. It’s one they encountered before. Cue the chills.

“This thing in your house is a demon. It’s the first one we’ve ever encountered,” Lorraine ominously tells the family in the trailer, before dropping the bombshell, “We were young. We were scared. We ran away.” Um, excuse me? The Warrens RAN AWAY? That’s all we needed to hear to prep our nightmares for months to come.

Annabelle Alert (Because, Honestly, Of Course She’s Here)

Annabelle fans, rejoice or panic, depending on how you feel about porcelain dolls with malevolent souls. Blink and you’ll miss her quick cameo in the trailer. Because apparently, one demonic foe isn’t enough when you’re the Warrens. The Annabelle doll’s brief return just cements her role as the MVP of the Conjuring universe.

Lest we forget, this doll’s wicked shenanigans propelled her spinoffs (Annabelle, Annabelle Creation, Annabelle Comes Home), which no one asked for but everyone watched.

Why Last Rites Stands Apart

Vera Farmiga, one-half of the iconic ghost-busting duo alongside Patrick Wilson, had some cryptic words about why The Conjuring: Last Rites might hit you differently than the previous entries. “The other three were about hauntings, and this one is about reckoning,” she says.

Reckoning, you say? Honestly, it’s about time someone reckons with the countless lives and property values destroyed across the franchise. The shift in tone promises a more personal, soul-searing story for the Warrens. Still spooky, but this time with even more emotional weight for fans to cling to while nervously clutching their popcorn buckets.

Is This Goodbye?

With The Conjuring series hitting its high note with this final installment, the end of the Warrens’ cinematic adventures feels bittersweet. Sure, Warner Bros. has teased a Conjuring spin-off series for Max (formerly HBO Max). And there’s still more room in the Nun franchise. But can anything truly replace the chemistry of Wilson and Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine? Not really.

Make sure you catch The Conjuring: Last Rites when it hits theaters September 5. After all, how else are you going to sleep with the lights on for a week?
