Star Wars Starfighter Receives Exciting Fresh Update As Director Shawn Levy Speaks
As “Star Wars” fans await next year’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” there’s another movie waiting in the wings for fans. “Star Wars Starfighter,” set for release in 2027, will star Ryan Gosling and be directed by Shawn Levy. Now, Levy shares some new insight about the making of the mysterious film.
About “Star Wars Starfighter”
“Star Wars Starfighter” will take place five years after 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” but it won’t be a sequel. Instead, it will be its own stand-alone movie. In an interview with ScreenRant, director Shawn Levy of “Deadpool and Wolverine” fame shared how the filming is going. He stated:
“My experience is that I genuinely feel like my 10-year-old self is on set with me every day. It is astonishing, and it’s complicated and thrilling every day. Ryan Gosling, we all know how brilliant he is, but he’s an incredible creative partner.
“And to fill out the cast with other amazing actors like Mia Goth, Matt Smith, and Amy Adams [and to have] this revelation of a young actor in Flynn Gray, it is more creatively satisfying than I dreamed it would be.”
So, How’s the Filming Going?
Levy said that filming is “a little over halfway done,” which means that the film will likely reach its May 2027 release date without problems if nothing dramatic happens. While “The Mandalorian and Grogu” means that fans get to see Din Djarin and Grogu (aka “Baby Yoda”) again, “Starfighter” is in some ways the more intriguing project.
Disney has not touched the sequel era in a movie or Disney+ project for quite some time, so it will be interesting to see what state the galaxy is in after “The Rise of Skywalker,” even if we don’t see any familiar faces from the sequel trilogy. In addition, it will be neat to see what is happening to other people outside the Resistance and the First Order.
Are There Other “Star Wars” Movies In Production?
After “The Mandalorian and Grogu” and “Star Wars Starfighter,” there are reportedly two other “Star Wars” movies in production: “New Jedi Order,” and “Dawn of the Jedi.” Little is known about either one, except that “New Jedi Order” will supposedly center around Rey after “The Rise of Skywalker,” and “Dawn of the Jedi” will be directed by James Mangold. There have also been various other projects drifting in and out of production.
However, since Disney has been very stingy with updates about these projects, it’s unclear whether or not they will actually be released. Still, “Star Wars Starfighter” looks like it’s in the clear for a release. Be prepared for some sweet space battles.
