Sophie Turner Advises New ‘Harry Potter’ Child Stars to Avoid Social Media Pitfalls
Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner has some advice for the up-and-coming child actors set to star in the new Harry Potter reboot. Turner was only thirteen when she started playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, and much like how Sansa frequently suffers on the show, she suffered in real life with social media. Now, she wants to help the young Harry Potter stars to avoid similar suffering.
Sophie Turner: Social Media “Almost Destroyed Me”

In a recent interview, Turner told Flaunt Magazine about the turmoils she suffered on social media while playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. She stated:
“I think social media was just really becoming a big thing after I started on Game of Thrones, so I got a couple of years of peace and quiet and then I had to adjust. It had such a profound impact on my mental health, like more than I could tell you. It almost destroyed me.”
She went on to say that therapy was essential during those years and that “One of the most important things to me in my life is talking about mental health: it’s vital.”
Turner’s Advice to the Young Harry Potter Reboot Stars
Turner went on to tell Flaunt Magazine about how she’s worried for the young actors set to star in the upcoming Harry Potter reboot. She said:
“I look at the kids who are about to be in the new Harry Potter and I just want to give them a hug and say, ‘Look, it’s going to be okay but don’t go anywhere near [social media]. Stay friends with your home friends, keep living at home with your family, make sure your parents are your chaperones—it’s so important to have that grounding adjacent to the big, crazy stuff that you do.”
Indeed, when we rant about child actors on social media, perhaps we should remember that they are still children. If an adult thinks it wouldn’t be cool to walk up to a child in real life and taunt them because of their looks or speech manners, perhaps they should think twice before doing so online.
Who Are the Stars of the Harry Potter Reboot?
The Potter reboot will star Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron, in addition to a host of other children who will play familiar Hogwarts students. Here’s hoping that they take Turner’s advice and don’t get involved with social media discussions about the show. Children deserve childhoods that are free from bullying.
