DEATH BATTLE!- RWBY vs. Soul Eater: Celebrating Anime’s Most Iconic Scythe-Wielding Heroes
The YouTube show DEATH BATTLE! has reached a milestone of 200 episodes! To celebrate, it presents a battle between the scythe wielders of RWBY and Soul Eater. In the red corner stands the cloaking-wearing hunter of Grimm, Ruby Rose. And opposite her in the blue corner is Maka Albarn, the hardworking, heroic Meister.
As you can imagine, these clashed their weapons in a must-see fight to the finish. But which one of these anime heroines came out on top and why? The article below contains the answers and explanations you seek.

Ruby Rose hails from the magical land of Remnant, where heroes, legends, and monsters exist. When in battle, she wields Crescent Rose, a scythe that doubles as a sniper rifle. She also possesses an Aura that protects her from most harm for a limited time. And her Semblance, Petal Burst, grants her super speed, borderline teleportation, and limited flight. Lastly, this RWBY protagonist possesses magical silver eyes capable of destroying the monstrous Grimm.
In Soul Eater, Maka Albarn is the rising star of Death Weapon Meister Academy. She’s partnered with the living weapon Soul, who takes the form of a scythe. Maka also possesses an Anti-Demon Wavelength and the ability to see souls. Additionally, she wields a substance known as Black Blood, which enhances her strength and durability. But it is her Soul Resonance bond with Soul that is her greatest weapon.
RWBY takes on Soul Eater
The clash of the scythe masters begins with Maka and Soul searching for Ruby. Upon finding her, Soul transforms, and the two heroines immediately jump into action. Ruby manages to dodge most of Maka’s attacks and keeps her on edge. But Soul manages to push his partner’s abilities to the max through their Soul Resonance. In the end, Maka bisects Ruby and takes possession of her spirit.
Following the showdown came the ability breakdown by the DEATH BATTLE! hosts, Wiz and Boomstick. They revealed Ruby had the edge in skill and tied with Maka in speed. However, her opponent was far stronger and had the better powers. Maka and Soul were able to disrupt Ruby’s Aura and power through her silver eyes. And that is what helped the Soul Eater protagonist secure the victory.
Final Thoughts
I’ll admit that I’m more of an RWBY fan than a Soul Eater one. As you can guess, I was disappointed to see Ruby lose this DEATH BATTLE! showdown. But, at the same time, I somewhat expected Maka to win. Her weapon was a separate living person, meaning this fight was two people against one.
As for the fight itself, it was definitely off the chain. I couldn’t take my eyes off the fast-paced actions and incredible animation. Another thing I loved is that Lindsay Jones returned to voice their iconic RWBY character. As well as the small yet touching memorial to Monty Oum. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next episode of DEATH BATTLE!
