The Origin of Take That
Formed in Manchester, England, Take That rose to fame in the early 1990s. Achieving success with their albums Everything Changes (1993) and Nobody Else (1995), they also have 12 number-one singles. They also have nine number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart. Williams pursued a solo career in 1995. This led to the groupโs initial breakup in 1996.
The Groupโs Disbandment and Reconnection
The band’s split was driven by a multitude of reasons. These reasons included internal tensions and struggles with mental health and addiction. Other reasons included creative disagreements and conflicts between Williams and bandmate Gary Barlow. Williams later stated that he felt forced to depart the band during a nervous breakdown.
In 2006, the band reunited without Williams, releasing the album Beautiful World and launching the Ultimate Tour. In 2010, Williams rejoined the band for the release of the album Progress. In 2011, all five members participated during the Progress Live tour. This tour set a record for the fastest-selling tour in UK history. In 2014, Jason Orange left the band seeking a normal life away from the spotlight.
Following his departure, the band continued as a trio, releasing the album III (2014), which became their seventh number-one album. They have since released other albums including Wonderland (2017) and This Life (2023).
