‘My Oxford Year’ Trailer Offers Glimpse Into A New Love Story
With all the superhero movies out, and war movies – and movies about big conflicts, sometimes it’s nice to have a romantic film. My Oxford Year, which is expected to be released later this summer on Netflix, is just that. It’s about Anna meeting Jamie and finding surprising connections and unexpected love. And where does it happen? You guessed it… in England set against the backdrop of Oxford.
My Oxford Year Basic Premise
Anna is from the United States. She’s had a definite life plan and concrete goals. On a Rhodes scholarship, she sets off to England to attend the prestigious and historical University of Oxford.
While in England, she has a funny mishap and runs into a handsome but sarcastic local named Jamie. Although the two get off to a rough start, she ends up finding out that the same person she met is the teacher of her literature class at Oxford. Some coincidence!
They find they have much in common and what could’ve been a brief whirlwind romance ends up being a love story. Can Anna go back to the US to pursue her dream career or does she stay in England and help Jamie when he needs it most?
The Trailer for My Oxford Year
Netflix has recently released the My Oxford Year trailer. It shows actors Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest as Anna and Jamie. Although not much of the plot is given away in the preview, you can see that it shows the iconic scenery of London. (Also its rainy weather.)
The trailer does indicate that Anna may have to make a choice between staying in England beyond her year at Oxford. or traveling back to the United States. We don’t know what will spark this decision, but the hint is given that this perhaps falls along a similar storyline as The Fault in Our Stars.
The Cast of My Oxford Year
Sofia Carson (Evie from Descendants and more recently Nora from Carry-On) and Corey Mylchreest (from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story) star in it. Besides the two, featured are Dougray Scott (of Batwoman, Hitman, and Ever After fame), and Catherine McCormack (Braveheart and Slow Horses). Charlie is played by Harry Trevaldwyn (Tuffnut from How to Train Your Dragon).
So far, the literature-inspired story looks to have a great cast, a storied university setting, and an engaging plot. The film will likely have a lot of poetic and literary references in it, especially if it’s anything like the book by Julia Whelan. It’s expected to be out August 1st on Netflix.
