K-Pop Demon Hunters’ EJAE Composed ‘Golden’ Melody on the Way to the Dentist
Are you a fan of Korean pop music or cartoons featuring humans fighting demons? If you answered yes to either question, K-Pop Demon Hunters is the movie for you. The animated film follows a trio of Korean music stars who also slay monsters. But they are soon confronted with a foe unlike any they’ve faced before.
Practically overnight, this flick from Netflix became a sensation across the globe. Fans love it for its story, characters, action, humor, moral lesson, and, of course, music. The energizing yet insightful song Golden is one of the favorites within the soundtrack. There’s even an amusing anecdote from the composer regarding its creation.
Recapping K-Pop Demon Hunters
K-Pop Demon Hunters stars Huntr/x, a world-famous female Korean pop music triad. There’s Rumi, the lead vocalist, Mira, the choreographer, and Zoey, the rapper. They’re also the newest generation of demon hunters gifted with soul-moving melodic voices. Additionally, their music helps strengthen a mystical demon-sealing barrier known as the Honmoon. And, thanks to their efforts, it’s close to achieving an ultimate level of power.
Meanwhile, five demons approach Gwi-Ma, the Demon King, and propose a diabolical plan. They’ll pose as a boy band to steal away Huntr/x’s fans and weaken the Honmoon. Their plan works, causing an influx of demons and putting the superstar trio on edge. Matters worsen when Rumi begins to lose her voice before the demons’ arrival. And the boy band leader uncovers a dark secret connected to her family.
The Truth About Golden
Being an animated musical, K-Pop Demon Hunters contains a plethora of catchy songs. Such hits include How It’s Done, Your Idol, Soda Pop, and What It Sounds Like. And one that has become a true favorite amongst the fans is Golden. This chart-topping tune grants viewers and listeners insight into Huntr/x and their personal feelings. Also in the movie, it was meant to strengthen the Honmoon.
K-pop singer and songwriter EJAE, the singing voice of Rumi, composed Golden. And, according to her, she created the melody when going to a dentist appointment. She doesn’t mention what prompted the creative boost, and it happened without cause. She does admit to using her past experiences to compose the song itself, though. Still, it goes to show you that inspiration can hit you anywhere at any time.
Final Thoughts
Golden is undoubtedly one of the best songs from K-Pop Demon Hunters. I adore how it stems from EJAE’s feelings from when she was starting her career. It gives people the chance to understand what artists go through to achieve their goals. And, of course, I love the simplistic and unexpected circumstances behind its creation.
As for K-Pop Demon Hunters itself, it is truly a spectacular movie. I watched it recently and couldn’t help falling in love with pretty much everything. And my mind has been plagued by pretty much every song from the soundtrack. I’ll also admit Zoey is my favorite Huntr/x member, but Bobby’s my overall favorite character. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, head over to Netflix and witness the magic.
