Adria Arjona Wonder Woman rumors

James Gunn Swiftly and Immediately Torches Wonder Woman Casting Rumors

James Gunn has shut down speculations that Adria Arjona is the new Wonder Woman. Rumors sparked when the co-head of DC Studios was following the actress on social media. However, Gunn has quickly cleared up the rumors and addressed the speculations that Arjona would be the new Diana Prince. Gal Gadot has played the role in recent memory, most recently as the character in The Flash (2023). Her role in that movie was a cameo in one scene early in the film, and she was never seen again.

James Gunn Shuts Down Wonder Woman Rumors

James Gunn addressed recent reports on following Arjona on social media after her appearance in The Belko Experiment (2016). He said, “We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her. People just notice these things all the time.” However, Gunn did say that Arjona would be a great Wonder Woman.

The actress has appeared in projects such as Andor, 6 Underground, Morbius, and Blink Twice. In the interview, Gunn said that Arjona was in a movie he made “seven years ago.” The actress was asked herself about rumors that she would be playing Wonder Woman. She said, “I love James Gunn,” in an interview with Cinemablend in April. She added, “He gave me my first movie ever, which was like my first studio movie, so I owe him a lot. I love James Gunn.”

The interviewer said, “James Gunn is following you on social media, and everyone is saying that’s because he wants you to play Wonder Woman.” She said that she has no clue if Gunn following her would signal that she would be cast as Wonder Woman. The interviewer asked her, “Do you think that means anything?” She responded while crossing her fingers for a brief second, “I don’t know, I mean. I don’t know.”

Gadot first debuted as the Amazonian superhero in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). She then reprised the role in two Wonder Woman films directed by Patty Jenkins. After the two solo films, Gadot appeared as the character in two versions of the Justice League films, as well as cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash. It looks like Gadot will be playing the character moving forward. The Flash served as a complete reboot for the DC Universe after the DCEU fell apart.

Final Thoughts

When Gunn took over to rein in the DC Universe, he decided that he was going to recast Wonder Woman as part of the DC reboot. A third Wonder Woman film with Gadot reprising the role was canceled when Gunn took over as co-head of DC Studios. Gadot, however, didn’t hold any hard feelings about losing the role. She told TotalFilm, “The fact that I don’t have to sit still at home and just wait for the next offer is something that makes me feel empowered.” The superhero will appear again on-screen at some point. Whoever will take on the role remains to be seen.
