Hiro Murai Set To Direct A24 Samurai Film

Critically acclaimed director Hiro Murai is set to make his feature film debut with A24. The director has worked in television and music before but has never directed a full-length movie. Murai has won many awards for various television series, most of which have premiered on FX and have been in high demand for years. Now, he works on Bushido.

When it comes to his work on TV, Hiro Murai has directed exceptional shows on FX and music videos. He has directed Atlanta, featuring Donald Glover, Lakeith Stanfield, and more. Atlanta went on to win sixty-four awards before it ended. He also worked with Donald Glover with the Prime Video short film Guava Island, featuring Rihanna. Murai did work for HBO with his mini-series Station Eleven and the Prime Video series Mr. and Mrs. Smith. He was also the executive producer of the Emmy-winning series The Bear, for which he won a BAFTA for. 

When it comes to his musical work, he worked with Donald Glover under his musical persona, Childish Gambino, to direct the This is America music video in 2018. The video won 8 awards, including a VMA, NAACP, iHeart Music, and Grammy award for the video alone. Bushido, the new A24 film directed by Hiro Murai, is going to be an action film that is set in feudal Japan and centered around Samurais. The actual plot of the film is unknown at this time. This movie is coming after multiple media projects were set during this same time, and it also follows Samurai. One project that many are attributing the inspiration for the plot to is Shōgun, the successful FX series that recently won 18 primetime Emmys. The show is set in feudal Japan as well, following Samurai during multiple conflicts. Another media project with a similar plot is the video game Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. The 14th installment in the Assassin’s Creed series is also set in Feudal Japan, following Samurai and ninjas.

Square Peg and A24 are also getting ready to release a big movie that features Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega and a highly anticipated drama with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
