Hazbin Hotel Burns Bright on Broadway: Vivienne Medrano’s Musical Shines in One-Night NYC Spectacle
It’s not uncommon in our culture for popular media to expand onto the Broadway stage. We’ve seen it happen with “Beetlejuice,” “Mean Girls,” and various Disney animated movies. And now, we can add Vivienne Medrano’s adult musical show “Hazbin Hotel” to the list. It’s the story of Hell’s princess and her journey to redeem the damned.
The live-stage event debuted in New York City for a single night. Medrano and various cast members from the source show attended this unbelievable moment. And would you believe she shared this night online through a collection of photos?
A Happy Day in Hell
In”Hazbin Hotel,” Hell undergoes an annual purge at the hands of Heaven’s army. Thousands upon thousands of condemned and sinful human souls end up wiped from existence. To counteract this, Charlie Morningstar, the show’s protagonist, repurposes a hotel into a rehabilitation center. Her goal is to help her patrons renounce their less-than-proper behaviors. And cross the threshold into the safe and secure paradise that is the Shining Kingdom.
Helping Charlie are her closest allies, like her girlfriend Vaggie and Alastor the Radio Demon. She even has the support of her father and king, Lucifer, despite his initial reluctance. Unfortunately, her efforts are often ignored or rejected by Sinners unwilling to better themselves. But her most prominent opposition comes from the higher-ups of Heaven. Everything leads up to an epic war between Heaven’s army and the hotel inhabitants.
Millions of people worldwide love “Hazbin Hotel,” constantly gathering fans. Viewers cannot help but adore its characters, music, romance, drama, humor, and lore. It’s undoubtedly one of the most prominent sensations of our current entertainment era. And it’s gotten bigger by stepping into a stage it’s never performed on before.
“Hazbin Hotel” Performs on Broadway
“Hazbin Hotel” hit the Broadway scene with its first-ever live concert on October 20. Dubbed “Hazbin Hotel: Live On Broadway,” this event took place at the renowned Majestic Theater. It featured the series’ cast members performing hit songs from the first and second seasons. And ‘Hazbin Hotel” lead and Charlie’s voice actor, Erika Henningsen, hosted the occasion. Afterward, all those in attendance witnessed a screening of the Season Two premiere.
Show creator Vivienne Medrano recently described the night as “incredible” and “amazing” on Instagram. She also accompanied her announcement with a plethora of photos. Some featured Medrano herself, and others depicted voice actors and crew members from “Hazbin Hotel.”
Every photo from Medrano depicted the “Hazbin Hotel” cast dressed in their Sunday best. They also, most importantly, showcased everyone in good spirits and displaying their close-knit camaraderie. You can tell it was an unbelievable, magical night simply by looking at them. And it will be one the Hazbin crew will never forget thanks to Medrano.
Final Thoughts
Given the event’s description, “Hazbin Hotel: Live On Broadway” sounded immensely incredible. I’m just disappointed I couldn’t witness it myself since I don’t live near NYC. Or else I would have snatched a ticket or two in a heartbeat.
Personally, I think it’s nice that Vivienne Medrano shared the event via Instagram. She immortalized it for herself, the cast, and the fans who couldn’t be there. But word has it the event is coming to Amazon in the future. Meaning those who couldn’t be there will witness the magical experience for themselves. Until then, they can catch the Season Two premiere of “Hazbin Hotel” coming this Wednesday.
