Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Cooks Up Exciting Drama
Last time on “Hazbin Hotel,” Charlie learned that Sir Pentious ascended into Heaven through redemption. This revelation prompts her to increase her efforts in redeeming Sinners, to no avail. The show also revealed that Rosie owns Alastor’s soul because of a pre-death deal. And Alastor let himself get captured by the Vees following an insane battle.
These dramatic developments and more, obviously, left fans awestruck and hungry for more. However, this week’s newest episodes only succeeded in furthering their hunger by bringing more drama. But what exactly happened to get “Hazbin Hotel” followers all anxious for the upcoming finale?
Vox’s Plan is Coming Together
“Hazbin Hotel” Episode 2×05 “Silenced” showcases Charlie meeting with Emily, Sera, Abel, and Lute. They compose a plan to establish peace between Heaven and Hell through reconciliation. Meanwhile, Vaggie implores Lucifer to intimidate Vox into ceasing his propaganda against Charlie. His efforts, unfortunately, end up making things worse, leading to Vox declaring war on Heaven. And everything leads to Charlie pushing Vaggie and Lucifer away after a heated argument.
In Episode 2×06 “Scream Rain,” Vox hires Carmilla Carmine to create a weapon for him. Charlie and Vaggie try talking her out of it, but the weapon-dealing Overlord remains adamant. The good thing is that their failed attempt leads to their reconciliation. With the Vees, tensions grow high thanks to Vox’s desire to succeed and Alastor’s meddling. The episode ends with them kidnapping Angel Dust and luring Lucifer into a trap.
Eyes Inside the Hazbin Hotel
A major reveal from these “Hazbin Hotel” episodes involves everyone’s favorite spider boy, Angel Dust. Vox admits he has been using him to spy on the hotel. Of course, Angel didn’t realize it because the television-headed Overlord had been hypnotizing him. But it essentially explains how he knew about Charlie’s plans and the Exorcists’ attack. The same goes for how he knew Lucifer could not smite/kill him.
Knowing Vox can hypnotize others isn’t a major revelation since it was confirmed long ago. We even see this power during his introduction back in Season One. Still, it does fill some overlooked or minor plot holes and explains some things. And it serves a crucial purpose despite its semi-random inclusion in this episode.
Charlie’s Possible Motivation for Redemption
It’s common knowledge in Hazbin Hotel that Charlie established the hotel to save Sinners. And to fulfill the dream of a better Hell that her estranged mother, Lilith, had. Although Charlie reveals she also started everything in the hopes her mom would come home. The worst part is that she blames herself for Lilith leaving in the first place.
This revelation reflects a real-world truth regarding some divorced families. Children often take the blame, assuming they’re the reason why their parents separated. It’s especially true when they are unclear on what caused their families to fall apart. They’ll also desire for things to return to normal, similar to what Charlie wants. It really shows how human “Hazbin Hotel” can be despite being set in Hell.
Final Verdicts and Thoughts
I must bestow “Hazbin Hotel” Episode 2×05 “Silenced” a full score of 10! It’s a spectacular episode with pacing and writing that hits the mark. Also, the drama between the main characters raises the enjoyment level. Not to mention the musical numbers from Vox’s gospel songs to Lucifer’s quick metal number. We even got a callback to Season One and the other six Deadly Sins. Plus, it was satisfying to see Vaggie lay down the law with Charlie.
As for 2×06 “Scream Rain,” it too receives a perfect score of 10. It matched its predecessor in terms of pacing, writing, drama, and music. It also gave us a look behind Charlie’s character, making her more relatable. And granted us a small peek into Vaggie’s past as an Exorcist. The best part, though, is that it sets up for the season finale next week.
