Harold and Kumar to Make a Triumphant Return in New Movie in the Works
Hold onto your White Castle sliders—Harold and Kumar are returning triumphant in a brand-new movie that’s officially in the works, proving once again that getting high and hijacking hilarity never goes out of style. The last time we met, both characters were in ‘A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas’, back in 2011. Over 14 years since we caught up with our favorite stoners on their hilarious adventures through life, love, and marijuana. The big question we all have, though, will see both original actors back in one of the roles that made them a household name?
What We Know So Far
The movie is being written by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, creators of Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai’, and will be directed by Hurwitz and Schlossberg with development happening at Lionsgate-owned by Mandate Pictures. These gentlemen are no strangers to the series as they wrote the original‘ Harold and Kumar go to White Castle’ and made their directorial debut and ‘Harold and Kumar Guantánamo Bay’.
With the success of those movies and their journey into the Karate Kid spinoff, whatever cast they get together will be out to play. Maybe we might get a cameo from Johnny Lawrence himself, William Zabka, or even anybody from the previous movies.
Catching Up with Harold and Kumar
If you’ve never seen the original Harold and Kumar movie, Korean American by the name of Harold and Indian American by the name of Kumar, who, after smoking weed, get the munchies and decide to go to the fast food joint White Castle. With the nearest restaurant being miles away, they go on a journey that makes them not only face their fears, but also face anything that hilariously comes their way.
The second movie leads right off where the first movie ends, where Harold decides to chase the love of his life to Amsterdam, but after an incident on a plane, he and Kumar get thrown into Guantánamo Bay. When they escape, they decide to seek the help of Kumar’s ex-girlfriend, who is marrying a guy was political ties who might be able to clear their name.
Passing the Smokey Torch
This film starred John Cho and Kal Penn in both lead roles, with a standout performance by Neil Patrick Harris playing a warped comedic version of himself. On the Hollywood Reporter, Hurwitz and Schlossberg have stated, “We’re fired up to bring Harold and Kumar back in a return to the unapologetically R-rated, smoke-filled chaos that started it all. It’s high time they puff and pass their wisdom onto a new generation. Just don’t tell their kids.” It’s time to bring back the “stoner comedy” to movies, and I think with the return of these iconic characters, we will get to see the blunt be passed to a new generation.
