Ghostface Reveals Shocking New Year Resolutions in Scream 7
Yes, even Ghostface makes New Year’s resolutions at least this year. With the seventh installment in the “Scream” franchise and the first one in three years slated for release in fewer than two months, this mysterious mask-clad murderer has decided that there’s no year better than 2026 for setting some important personal goals. Thanks to their statistically high failure rate, New Year’s resolutions are ordinarily something that brings out the worst in people. In Ghostface’s case, however, it’s the success of the resolutions that will be morally disheartening.
A Masked Killer’s 2026 Goals: Friendships Are Important, And So Is Being Prepared
This past New Year’s Day, the X account for the “Scream” franchise posted a 12-second video containing a bullet-pointed list of Ghostface’s self-improvement goals for 2026. The anonymous antagonist (at least he/she/they will be spared personal humiliation if this fails) pins this piece of paper to a wall with a deadly blade.
There are in total four resolutions, each of which is twofold: 1. “Call old friends more.” “Pay them a visit.” 2. “Make new friends.” “Schedule more hangouts.” 3. “Do more cardio.” “Build upper-body strength.” 4. “Sharpen the knife every night.” “Always be prepared.” Above the video itself are the words: “We have some catching up to do, Sidney.”
Let’s Analyze These a Bit
Now, if you’ve seen the “Scream 7” trailer, which was released a little over two months ago, you know that Ghostface will almost certainly keep most or all of these resolutions. Whoever the killer turns out to be in this iteration, “Scream 7″‘s Ghostface obviously has some kind of history with Sidney (Neve Campbell), who tells the antagonist over the phone:
“You sure know a lot about me for another asshole hiding behind a voice changer.” Of course, Ghostface doesn’t intend to “hide” for much longer, and subsequent clips show the masked marauder invading Sidney’s home.During this invasion, Ghostface imperils Sidney’s daughter, Tatum (Isabel May). “I’m not going to hurt her until you’re here to see it!” he tells Sidney via another phone call.
Between this and the fact that veteran survivor Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) is also returning to take down Ghostface yet again, the killer can check “old friends,” “new friends,” and “more hangouts” off the list. The trailer never shows Ghostface sharpening the knife or working out, per se.
Still, this killer is clearly a strong individual who puts that weapon to plenty of practical use: we see Ghostface stabbing (or trying to stab) people on no fewer than four occasions, and this villain is able to overpower a police officer in a surprise attack swiftly.
I do doubt, however, that Ghostface will always be prepared throughout the runtime of “Scream 7.” If the antagonist is indeed ready for any defensive actions taken by Sidney, Tatum, Gale, and the rest of our heroes, then this film may conclude with the grimmest ending the franchise has seen yet.
Conclusion: Who Has Made These Resolutions?
The “Scream” franchise is, at its heart, a whodunit series; one of the most entertaining aspects of these movies is the mystery of who (singular or plural) lies behind the Halloween mask and the voice modulator. The revelation that this iteration of Ghostface counts Sidney Prescott among his/her/their “old friends” suggests the antagonist is a character from one or more of the first five films.”Scream VI” didn’t feature Sidney.
For at least a month now, we’ve known that Matthew Lillard‘s Stu Macher, one of the original film’s Ghostfaces (alongside Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis) will be returning in “Scream 7,” having evidently survived that sparking television to his face. However, we mustn’t jump to the conclusion that Stu is the one who invades Sidney’s middle-aged life with deadly intent.
The trailer still keeps Ghostface’s identity a secret, suggesting the film may avoid an obvious culprit. Recall that, back in 1996, Stu was definitely the less malicious of the two killers, even chalking his murderous involvement up to peer pressure.
Has this sniveling one-time accomplice made a New Year’s resolution to take charge this time around as the orchestrator of the evil scheme? Or will he fulfill some more surprising role that we cannot yet imagine? Let’s hope that everyone involved in “Scream 7” put “reboot the franchise on a high note” on their own cherished list of resolutions.
