Eli Roth’s ‘Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!’ Casts Snoop Dogg; Filming Kicks Off This Summer

Over the past quarter-century, Eli Roth has established himself as a horror filmmaker with a style all his own. His few deviations from the genre (such as the PG-rated fantasy comedy “The House with a Clock in Its Walls” and the utterly disastrous video-game adaptation “Borderlands”) notwithstanding, Roth’s movies are latter-day grindhouse flicks: ’70s-inspired, unabashedly crude, darkly comedic, and just plain dark and nasty. Perhaps no title has so evocatively captured this cinematic sensibility as that of one of his forthcoming films: “Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!” It’ll begin filming soon, and now we know the name of one cast member.

Rap Legend Now Starring in Roth’s Flick

On Jan. 16, Variety reported that Snoop Dogg, most famous for his prolific work as a West Coast hip-hop artist, singer, and record producer, will have a starring role in “Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!” Snoop Dogg is a co-producer of the film alongside Roth, and his fans should be elated to learn that he’s also going to contribute his musical talents to the soundtrack. At this time, nothing at all is known about the character he will be playing.

While he may be famed for his previous contributions to music above all else, Snoop Dogg also has a sizable acting resume. This includes a small role as a drug dealer and informant in the corrupt-cop thriller “Training Day” (2001), a supporting role as another informant in the buddy-cop flick “Starsky & Hutch” (2004), and a starring role as an airplane Captain in the comedy “Soul Plane” (2004), to name just a few. His filmography also has its share of horror entries, “Scary Movie 5” (2013) and the two “Meet the Blacks” films (2016 and 2021) among them. Roth has collaborated with him on one previous project: the music video for his 2012 promotional single “La La La.”

A Mysterious Haunted-House Flick, to Begin Filming in June

The Variety article also included quotes from Roth regarding the content and upcoming production of “Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!” He said that he had completed the movie’s script during the holiday season, and that he and his crew are “budgeting now. I’m going to apply for the California tax credit. If I get the tax credit, I want to shoot it in Los Angeles so we can have all L.A. people on it.” The article reported that “shooting is expected to kick off in June.”

As for the plot of the film, Roth mostly opted to explain that its title is self-explanatory: “People keep going in the house. People don’t listen. What are you doing, bitch? Don’t go in that house… It’s basically everything that we yell at the screen during horror movies. You put those as characters in the movie like a Greek chorus.” He also called it “the ultimate haunted house movie, like the craziest one, something that mixes ‘House,’ ‘House by the Cemetery,’ ‘Hausu,’ and ‘Friday the 13th,’ like something so insane people can’t believe it exists.”

Trailer for “Don’t Go In That House, Bitch!” Courtesy of JoBlo Horror

Quite some time ago, Roth advertised the plot of “Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!” in a much more fun manner. Back in Aug., he released a kind of pseudo-trailer for the film, showing how numerous people will ignore the titular imperative (which is spoken repeatedly by the trailer’s narrator) to their own undoing. The house’s sinister inhabitants include a white-clad, old-looking figure and a very sexy pole-dancer who seduces a teenage visitor before peeling off the skin over her intimate parts and licking her lips with a forked tongue.

This trailer may encapsulate in a very amusing fashion the essential nature of “Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!”, but it’s doubtful how much of the real film it spoils. Early in his career, Roth directed a fake trailer for “Thanksgiving” to accompany the theatrical release of Quentin Tarantino’s and Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 “Grindhouse” double feature. The trailer advertised a nonexistent film as hilariously and nastily retro-chic as these feature-length movies, and it bore surprisingly little resemblance to the feature-length “Thanksgiving” slasher film that Roth ultimately directed in 2023.

No Further Casting Information

Snoop Dogg is currently the only person known to be a member of the cast for “Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!” The Aug. trailer is fake in the sense that those whom Roth cast to act in it will not be starring in the actual film. It will probably be some time yet before we learn how similar the movie will be to its first quasi-advertisement.
