Billie Lourd Honors Her Star Wars Legacy by Recreating Iconic Return of the Jedi Moments In Awesome Photoshoot

Billie Lourd, the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher, is showing her “Star Wars” spirit. While Fisher died of a heart attack in 2016, and Princess Leia followed her actress in death with 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” Lourd is keeping the princess’s legacy and her mother’s legacy alive.

A tweet shared on the official “Star Wars” X page, shows a short video of Lourd wearing Leia’s iconic forest gear from “Return of the Jedi.” She is wearing the costume for a photoshoot for the “Star Wars” Columbia collection. Her two kids are dressed as Wicket the Ewok. She calls her mother’s outfit “legendary,” practically shouting out the word.

“It feels like this gift from my mom in this incredible way,” Lourd says in the video. “I actually was getting dressed this morning and found the ring that she always wears, and I put it on. She would absolutely love this so much.” With the help of her Ewok-dressed kids, she recreated the shot from the movie where Leia carries Wicket off a log. “They really love ‘Star Wars’ now too,” she said, “and it’s just the coolest thing of all time.”

Billie Lourd’s History with “Star Wars”

This isn’t the first time Lourd has donned “Star Wars” garb. In the “The Force Awakens,” “The Last Jedi,” and “The Rise of Skywalker,” she played a big part as Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix. She also played Leia in the flashback scene in “The Rise of Skywalker,” though her face was digitally altered to look like Carrie Fisher.

In addition, she claimed on “The Ellen DeGenres Show” that she auditioned for the part of Rey. Given that before “The Force Awakens” came out, there were numerous rumors that Rey was Leia and Han’s daughter, those rumors would have been amplified if Lourd had gotten the part instead of Daisy Ridley. Perhaps there’s an alternate universe where Lourd did get the role, and the filmmakers decided to make Rey Kylo Ren’s sister instead of an eventual love interest.

Remembering Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher will be forever remembered for giving Princess Leia Organa a soul. Her tragic death was shocking to “Star Wars” fans the world over. Leia may be gone, but her legacy will live on. Lourd’s photoshoot helps keep her mother’s memory alive, and it feels like Fisher is smiling at her daughter from the afterlife.
