Andy Samberg Opens Up on Brooklyn Nine-Nine Revival’s Hard Sell Without Andre Braugher

Actor, rapper, and producer Andy Samberg is renowned for numerous roles across various media. He was a prominent performer on the Saturday Night Live variety show. And portrayed Johnny in the Hotel Transylvania films and plays the titular character of Digman! Nowadays, people mostly recognize him from the crime dramedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The show remains popular even after its series finale in 2021. Yet, there has been talk surrounding whether a revival would be possible. Samberg weighed in on the topic, though admitted it would be a ‘hard sell.’ Care to learn the exact reason why he would give such a concrete statement?

The Brilliance That is Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows the adventures of the titular division of the NYPD. The protagonists used their unique skills to solve various kinds of crimes. They also tackled their emotional dramas and strengthened their interpersonal relationships. However, the moments in between featured them being goofballs and getting on each other’s nerves.

Andy Samberg starred as the series’s overall protagonist, a childish yet brilliant detective. Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, and Melissa Fumero were among his esteemed co-stars. And that ensemble included the late and great Andre Braugher. Braugher portrayed Captain Raymond Holt, the squad’s stickler leader and supportive pseudo father figure.

Andy Samberg Discusses Proposed Revival

Some time ago, Andy Samberg participated in an interview regarding a possible Nine-Nine revival. He expressed that he would gladly rejoin his former cast members. But he admitted that the entire project would be challenging to accomplish without Andre Braugher.

Samberg spoke of how the departed actor was a prominent part of the show. He called Braugher the DNA of the series because he masterfully blended comedy and drama. He also admitted that it would be hard to perform without Braugher as his opposite. And that the new installment would lack the same magic as the original program.

Still, Samberg remained open to the possibility of a renewal coming to life. He loved seeing cast members and would gladly do so in some capacity once more. However, we can only wait to see if this remarkable series makes a grand return.

Final Thoughts

I honestly agree with every point Andy Samberg made about the revival. It would be hard to accomplish without Andre Braugher’s acting prowess. He brought a lot to the show, creating some of its most memorable moments. A reboot would be a disaster without him and his chemistry with the cast. It would be like resurrecting Castle while leaving out Nathan Fillion and/or Stana Katic.

I’ve mostly watched clips and compilations of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on YouTube. But everything I witnessed secured the show onto my bucket list. I adore the blend of gut-busting comedy and intense drama. And it’s undoubtedly the series to watch for anyone who enjoys the same mixture.
