2027 Godzilla x Kong Film Acquires Renowned Villain
The Godzilla x Kong movies are some of the best in the Monsterverse film series. It brings together its two kaiju protagonists – Godzilla and Kong – for mind-blowing crossovers. Their first encounter was a classic slugfest that even Toho would be proud of. After that, they joined forces to combat a foe that threatened to destroy the world. Each spectacle of theirs brought a plethora of thrills that left fans wanting more.
In 2027, the two monsters are coming back together for “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.” Word has it that the upcoming film has chosen its next antagonist. And would you believe that it’s a popular fan-favorite from Toho that everyone suspected? It’s true, and we’re going to tell you just who it is.
The Godzilla x Kong Saga
Legendary Pictures‘ Godzilla x Kong arc began in 2021 with “Godzilla vs Kong.” For reasons unknown, the King of Monsters is attacking areas and causing much devastation. A technology CEO finances an expedition to find a way to stop the rampaging kaiju. And it involves using the giant ape to trek through a literal realm of monsters. Everything leads to a showdown in Hong Kong, where the beasts battle for survival.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” continues the story with Kong finding other giant apes. In turn, he comes face-to-face with their megalomaniacal leader, who plans to conquer the surface. And he plans to do so by controlling an ancient and powerful ice-breathing titan. The guardian ape eventually journeys to Earth to convince a now-evolved Godzilla to help. Afterward, Kong becomes the new king of the apes, and Godzilla returns to Earth’s surface.
In 2027, the protagonist kaiju pair return for another adventure in “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.” The two must band together once again to stop a world-ending threat. What this danger could be is unknown, but Monsterverse fans have been guessing. And now, we have an update on who or what this threat is.
Iconic Toho Antagonist Coming to Monsterverse
Recent news confirms that a fan-favorite Toho kaiju will be the main antagonist for “Supernova.” And the lucky creature is none other than the extraterrestrial terror known as . . . SpaceGodzilla! That’s right, Godzilla’s crystalline clone from the Heisei Era is returning to the big screen.
SpaceGodzilla debuted over 30 years ago in the film “Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla.” He came into existence after Godzilla’s cells merged with crystal organisms in outer space. Then he arrived on Earth to conquer it and defeat his counterpart in the process. The crystalline abomination wields psychic powers and can fire off energy for various attacks. Additionally, he can assume an imposing flight mode, generate crystals, and is highly intelligent.
After learning of “Supernova,” fans suspected SpaceGodzilla was finally coming to the Monsterverse. But their theories have been confirmed thanks to the Writers Guild of America. The website reported “Supernova” pulls from materials based on Godzilla and SpaceGodzilla. It’s also possible that this upcoming movie will be inspired by Toho’s hit 1994 film. We won’t know for sure until another update comes out, hopefully sometime soon.
Final Thoughts
I’m not surprised that SpaceGodzilla is the antagonist for “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.” He always seemed like the ideal candidate ever since the teaser trailer dropped. Plus, the Monsterverse needed another space monster in its roster besides Ghidorah. Yet I’m interested to see if Legendary keeps the aspect of his origins or not.
Nevertheless, I’m ecstatic to see “Supernova” when it premieres. I’m especially excited to see if it will be more Godzilla-centric given its chosen antagonist. It would also be mind-blowing to see Godzilla and Kong team up against SpaceGodzilla. Sadly, we’ll have to wait until the movie premieres on March 26, 2027.
