Country star Morgan Wallen is no stranger to controversy. Back in late March, he was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Most of the time, SNL’s celebrity host and musical guest(s) will stay and mess around with the cast. They’ll often take all the jokes and ribbing in stride. Strangely enough, after Morgan Wallen’s last SNL appearance, he exited the stage abruptly. Fans were left scratching their collective heads.
Morgan Wallen’s Singing Career
The Tennessee native competed on Team Adam on The Voice season six. Although Morgan didn’t win (JoshKaufman did) he did well in his post-The Voice career. In 2015 he signed with Panacea Records, then with indie label Big Loud. Morgan Wallen soon started working and writing with other country artists to include Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean.
In 2020, we saw the fears from the COVID pandemic grip America. Morgan Wallen found that he had more time to write, and he recorded ‘Dangerous: The Double Album,’ which achieved commercial success in both the US and Canada.
In May of 2022, Morgan released his single ‘You Proof,’ which peaked at number five on Billboard’s Hot 100. In 2023 and now in 2025, Morgan released other albums, which have done very well. His career is on the rise, despite some controversies.
Morgan Wallen’s Controversies Explained
There is an old quote that says something like, “there’s no such thing as bad publicity.” Morgan Wallen and his controversies fit this to a tee. He has had a couple of run-ins with the law, including getting kicked out of Kid Rock‘s club and a chair-throwing incident from a roof in Tennessee. To be fair, the chair landed only a few feet from the police.
In early 2021 Morgan Wallen said the N-word and it was caught on videotape. Within several days his music was pulled and he lost his recording contract. His label said they would suspend him indefinitely. Additionally, American Music Awards banned him from attending. It was not until over a year later when Morgan was able to perform at the Billboard Music Awards.
Morgan Wallen’s Abrupt Exit on SNL
In March 2025. Saturday Night Live had Morgan Wallen and Mikey Madison of Anora fame as the guest hosts. Instead of hanging out with the cast members of SNL, Morgan suddenly exited the stage. Later on, in an interview with podcaster Caleb Pressley, Morgan addressed the situation. He stated he was simply tired, as his schedule had finally caught up with him. Morgan further said that he held no ill will towards SNL, the producers, or the cast; he just wanted to get home. Looks like he’s not one for the long goodbyes.
Morgan Wallen’s new album, entitled ‘I’m the Problem,’ comes out Friday, May 16th. Eric Church, Post Malone, and a few other musicians will make guest appearances.
