Monday’s Book Pick Week 3: The Boyfriend

Today’s book choice comes from a different genre than what you would expect from our last two. This week, we will look into a read that has topped charts and reached readers’ hands, even by recommending social media trends. ‘The Boyfriend‘ by Frieda McFadden is a twisting psychological thriller that will pull you in before you realize it. Do not let its romantic name fool you; murder and more await within its pages! You will soon find yourself in the main character’s shoes, taking you into various emotions as this book unfolds. From loneliness to hope and sudden anxiety and fear, you will not know what to expect to feel next!

Most Read Books And More

McFadden’s new read, (The Boyfriend), has already made it onto several noteworthy lists and has been awarded GoodRead’s Best Thriller Award. For eight consecutive weeks, McFadden’s newest thriller has stayed on one of Amazon’s Charts, The Top 20 Most Sold & Most Read Books of the Week. Over those eight weeks, it has stayed in the top three and, at one point, remained in first place for several weeks. On top of winning an award from GoodReads, ‘The Boyfriend‘ has also stayed on top of their Most Read Books This Week In The United States list. It is currently sitting in the number one spot!

The famous social platform TikTok has its own cult following hashtag, #BookTok, and McFadden’s book has surged in popularity. Many readers in this section recommend highly addictive reads of a few select genres. The rising surge on TikTok landed this read onto Books-A-Million’s The Best from #BookTok list. While there are various formats and editions, Barnes & Noble has an exclusive edition containing a designed tip-in and bonus content. If this many people, from physical in-store customers to online popularity, have enjoyed this read so far, I am willing to bet it is worth picking up.

So What’s It Actually About?

Your main character is a single lady, but it is not that type of book! Don’t jump to conclusions and form an opinion so fast! Our main character, Sidney Shaw, has had the worst luck regarding men and dating. She’s had every stereotypical negative experience in the dating world, from men lying on their online profiles to raging mommy issues. If you can think of it, she has probably had to deal with it, unfortunately. That is until a charming doctor named Tom steps into her life. She takes you down the emotional joy she experiences, ticking off the list of Tom’s wonderful traits for you and herself.

Here is where the plot really starts, not to thicken but actually start. Imagine finding someone who finally not only meets your expectations but also passes them by far. Now, add that your newly found someone is an established doctor who makes you happy beyond belief. While all this is finally happening for you, of course, your previous experiences and trauma keep your insecurities alive, naturally. While trying to enjoy your new beau, the news of a serial killer who dates the women he kills emerges. It now becomes a battle in your mind to be happy or concerned. To continue to enjoy your overdue romance or to look into Tom?

So, What Would You Do?

My summary of this week’s book choice that I will leave you with is simply the above question. What would you do? Would you find yourself questioning and overthinking the happiness you just found? Would you worry that you were the next possible victim and likely ruin your new relationship? Or would you continue to enjoy bliss and push past all worry and concern? The only way you will really know is if you check out this read. You’ll feel like you are the main character; her ultimate choice will also be yours. Here is to hunting for happiness or encouraging concern and worry. Happy reading!
