LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn will star in Molepeople, a new horror film from Blumhouse’s Atomic Monster banner and Paramount Primal, according to Variety. Stanfield revealed the project’s release date, Aug. 27, 2027, during a panel at New York Comic-Con on Friday evening.
The casting marks the first confirmed details about who will lead the film, which centers on a man who descends into abandoned tunnels beneath New York City and discovers a twisted society living underground, according to Variety.
The Role And Project Details
Variety did not specify which character either actor will play. Rob Savage is directing Molepeople from a screenplay by Nathan Elston. Paramount will handle worldwide distribution after the studio and Blumhouse Atomic Monster co-financed and co-produced the film alongside Paramount Primal.
Jason Blum, who heads Blumhouse Atomic Monster, is producing. Paramount Primal leaders J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are also producing, along with James Harris.
What The Molepeople Cast Means For Fans
For fans tracking Stanfield’s career, Molepeople represents his third collaboration with Blumhouse. He had a small role in 2014’s The Purge: Anarchy and a more prominent part in 2017’s Get Out, both Blumhouse productions. His return to the studio for a lead role signals continued ties between the actor and the horror label behind some of the genre’s biggest recent hits.
Mendelsohn’s casting adds another recognizable name to the project, though Variety’s report did not detail his specific character or any other performers joining the cast at this time.
What’s Next
Molepeople arrives in theaters on Aug. 27, 2027 through Paramount. More cast members and production details are expected ahead of the release.
