The 11-year-old was admitted to a hospital for headaches. That was on April 29. It’s possible she had also been receiving treatment for dengue, which is a virus transmitted by mosquitoes that causes fever, headaches, muscle and joint pain, and rash. Reportedly, she had multiple cardiac arrests. Doctors diagnosed Milena Brandao with a brain tumor, and she died on May 2.

Open letter to my little one. On May 2nd we lost our little girl, but I am sure that she is in the arms of our almighty father and in a beautiful place to play. The memories we spent together will remain in my memory and I’ll never forget your joy that was contagious to everyone around you. My girl, I’m already missing you not being here and I know I’ll miss you even more in the days to come.
You were the light in our lives and I know that from up there you’ll continue to watch over us and light up our lives. And I’ll love you forever, and you’ll always be in my heart. I love you, my girl.
The little girl died at Grajaú General Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. The funeral was held on Sunday, May 4. Fans commented on Instagram to share their sadness at the heartbreaking news. One fan posted, “My condolences to the family. Children should be immune to all evils.”
