The upcoming $90 million budget, supernatural horror thriller Sinners starring Michael B. Jordan, is garnering some impressive box office predictions. The movie is set to release on April 18, coinciding with the holiday weekend, and Warner Bros. has had great success with releases in that same time frame. Titles like Ready Player One have done well for them before. Michael B. Jordan is best known for his roles in Creed and Black Panther.’
The Movie
In ‘Sinners,’ Michael B. Jordan portrays twin brothers in the 1930s Jim Crow-era South. They return to their hometown, where they purchase an abandoned mill from a white supremacist. They set up a music hall where the fun begins, but then they run afoul of evil forces in the form of vampires. The trailer is engaging, with scenes of dancing and arousing sex. We also get a view of two vampires baring their teeth and bloodied mouths. It’s a spectacle of shadowy night scenes characterized by the color red and dramatic music. That soundtrack may get as much attention as the film!
Michael B. Jordan is joined by Miles Caton, Saul Williams, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Andrene Ward-Hammond, Li Jun Li, and more. It was written and directed by Ryan Coogler. Coogler is also known for directing ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ and ‘Creed.’ With so many projects together, this actor/director pair must have a fantastic working partnership.
Predictions
According to Deadline and box office predictions, the movie is expected to make as much as $40 million or more over the opening weekend. There are two other horror flicks opening the same weekend, ‘The Shrouds,’ and ‘The Ugly Stepsister.’ But, based on reactions to ‘Sinners,’ it’s unlikely either film will outperform it. Critics have nothing but positive reviews.
“SinnersMovie is a bold blast, easily one of my favorite studio releases of the last 10 years. Can’t wait to see it in 70mm at my favorite first run theater!” said Jim Hemphill of Indiewire.
“SINNERS is a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience from the mind of Ryan Coogler. What begins as a deep Southern gangster period piece soon transforms into a harrowing fight for survival and spiritual freedom against a ruthless clan of vampires. And it’s absolutely awesome!!”- Matt Neglia, Next Best Picture.
#SINNERS is the best film of the year (so far). Coogler + Michael B. got the sauce to a level you can’t fathom. Every music number had me breathless – especially that oner. Shoutout authentic Irish tunes one time. WB has a hot new, *original* franchise on its hands. @screenrant pic.twitter.com/ad7CJ68N45
