Now, now, it is that time of year again, It’s MET Gala season. Where on May 6th we as humans do see the rich and famous draped in beautiful artsy fashion pieces at the New York MET Gala.
MET Gala 2024: The Party of the Season
Where this year’s theme is known as Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which will feature avant-garde pieces, and historical costumes of grandeur and fragile beauty that could never be worn again. We also all, of course, know that the MET museum remains closed off before reopening for the public the following week.
We all know that while the costumes are pretty, the rich also wear them well, with this year’s costume code being The Garden of Time. Where multiple ideas could come into work, either with the obvious being florals.
Perhaps some steampunk might come into play, the thoughts are just exciting. But anyway, more on what it is and what they do when the cameras aren’t on them, and how the New York museum houses such a prestigious event.
The MET Gala History
Now for those of you who do not know anything about art and culture, allow me to educate you.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was originally built in 1870 in you guessed it, New York, New York (cue Frank Sinatra song). The museum had originally housed and cultured over 8000 plus artifacts from east Asia, and ancient Egypt. As of now, it is the fourth largest museum in the world, which houses over 1.5 million objects. Its original purpose was supposedly to educate the masses and bring art and culture to the United States.
When they first came up with the MET gala that we so know and love to this day. Fast forward in time to the 1970s, more specifically November 28th, 1973, which began The Battle of Versailles, which involved French designers and American designers dancing in the area. Which, fun fact, was not held in the museum, but within the palace of Versailles, in, hold your applause, France.
The long story short of the famous fashion show is that all of the American designers got the most applause for their innovative and beautiful designs.
When the events have just been getting more and more grandiose and while it is for charity events. This kind of escalates past your average black charity tie event, but anyway, I ramble a lot, this year’s hosts are Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and of course, Anna Wintour herself.
The information around the gala has been relatively kept under tight wraps, knowing that the guest list isn’t revealed until the night before the event. Along with having to be approved by Anna Wintour herself, it is a rather tight fit to get an invite without having to pay a whopping 75,000 in addition to 300,000 for a chance to meet the rich and famous.
So What’s in the Collection
So the gala includes a variety of rare and famous collections by Schiaparelli and Dior. It will also comprise three different zones, such as land, sky, and sea. It is also rumored that the collection will tie into land conservation and sustainability.
Long story short, it looks like it will be another fruitful, or is it bountiful first Monday of the season once we see the rich and famous show off what they are made of? while you can watch the livestream on Vogue, once Monday hits.
