The semi-finals for this Masked Singer season presented some of the most intense performances yet! Each disguised performer brought their best so they could advance to the finale. And they had to during crucial one-on-one clashes that rewarded the winners with safety. As for the runners-up, they had to participate in a last-chance Smackdown round. The victor of that match would receive the third and final spot. Everything ended with an unmasking, but whose famous face did we see this week?
The Semi-Finals Are Here
This crucial Masked Singer event opened with a group performance of “Handclap.” Afterward, Boogie Woogie and Pearl kicked things off with their head-to-head clash. The disco dude delivered a dynamic rendition of Maroon 5’s “Maps” that energized the crowd. His iridescent opponent took the stage next with Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me.” A sudden studio-wide voting followed their performances, with Pearl winning over Boogie Woogie.
The clash between Mad Scientist Monster and Coral continued these epic Masked Singer head-to-head matches. Coral took the stage first, wowing everyone with a Billie Eilish hit. After her came Mad Scientist Monster with an energizing rendition of “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” A collective voting proceeded afterward, just like with the last contestant clash. Ultimately, Mad Scientist Monster triumphed in this heated battle for a finale spot.
One last spot for the Masked Singer Season 13 finals remained. Boogie Woogie and Coral immediately competed for it in a make-it-or-break-it Smackdown. The reef-covered diva sang a beautiful rendition of KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See.” But the groovy fuzzball showed off his vocals with “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.” Both performances dazzled the crowd and judges, yet one last voting had to ensue.
A Special Masked Singer Reveal
Everyone surrounding the Masked Singer stage was ready to choose from Coral or Boogie Woogie. However, before anyone could vote, the sound of a bell tolling rang throughout the studio. It turned out to be coming from this season’s mystery detective, Lucky Duck. The insightful waterfowl announced that both mystery singers will advance to this season’s finale! Instead, the Masked Singer detective would reveal himself in their place.
Lucky Duck mentions during a sudden clue package that he often works on movie sets. And after a quick dance number, the feathered sleuth revealed himself as . . . Taika Waititi! Waititi is the renowned comedian and award-winning director known for Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit. He’s also the husband of singer, actress, and Masked Singer judge Rita Ora. He donned the duckbill and trenchcoat all to see her more during the show.
Final Thoughts
This Masked Singer episode was the perfect precursor to the upcoming season finale. Every performance during these semi-finals was fantastic, though Mad Scientist Monster’s was my favorite. Of course, the revelation of Taika Waititi being the private eye ducky was mind-blowing. Rita Ora running onto the stage to meet her beloved was incredibly adorable. With four mystery singers remaining, the finals are shaping up to be an incredible occasion. I’ll catch this two-hour-long special when it premieres next week and bring you the news.
