More Than a Married Couple manga finally ends 20-month break
Twenty months after it went on hiatus, “More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers” is coming back. Creator Yūki Kanamaru said on X on Thursday, Oct. 1, that the More Than a Married Couple manga will resume in the December issue of Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine, which goes on sale in November, Anime News Network reported.
Why the More Than a Married Couple manga took a break
The series paused in March 2025 so Kanamaru could prepare its last stretch and publish it at a manageable pace. The comeback opens that final part, and the new chapters will be collected in Vol. 14.
Kadokawa released Vol. 13 in March 2025, the same month the break began. The romantic comedy has run in Young Ace since 2018.
Practice marriage, real feelings
The story centers on Jiro Yakuin, a high schooler with almost no dating experience, and Akari Watanabe, a popular classmate who is his opposite in nearly every way. Their school’s “Marriage Practical” class pairs them as a mock married couple.
The catch: They have to share a home and play husband and wife convincingly. Only then can they earn the right to switch to the partners they actually have crushes on.
Udon Entertainment publishes the More Than a Married Couple manga in English.
A 12-episode anime adaptation
The manga inspired an anime that premiered in October 2022. Studio Mother produced the 12-episode series, which aired in Japan from Oct. 9 to Dec. 25, 2022. Crunchyroll streamed it alongside the Japanese broadcast and also released an English dub.
