Over the weekend, the “Obsessed” crooner lost two family members. One was her mom, Patricia, while the other was her sister. The 55-year-old confessed that it was a rather traumatic experience. In an exclusive interview with People, she shared: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
According to the Grammy winner, she spent quality time with her mom recently that for her was a “blessed” moment. Mariah refrained from giving more details about the deaths and there is no news about the cause of death for either her mother or her sister. During the interview, though, she revealed little details about her sister. Furthermore, sources have confirmed that a friend of the family named David Baker has been speaking about the dynamics of the sisters’ relationship.
Mariah Carey Ignored Her Sister Until Death
In an exclusive report by TMZ, Baker confirmed that Mariah Carey was good to her sister but that things went south following Alison’s refusal and inability to overcome her addictions. As such, the “Emotions” singer opted for tough love to deal with her sister. Eventually, Mariah decided to go no contact, but Alison was hurt by her rejection.
Baker maintained that both parties were upset, especially Alison. He felt that the “Hero” star should have reached out since she was aware Alison was in a critical situation. Alison had hoped to hear from her sister. A phone or video call would have sufficed, but neither ever came. During her last days, Alison thought about her funeral and wasn’t sure her family would grace the event.

Alison saw Mariah as this accomplice, drugging her sister at one point. Following the situation, Mariah affirmed that Alison had tried to pimp her. Without mincing words, she claimed staying away from Alison and her brother, Morgan, was safer for her.
Mariah’s Relationship With Other Family Members
As with her sister, Mariah did not always have the best relationship with her mom Patricia. Although inheriting her vocals from the family matriarch, things were complicated between the two of them. In her 2020 memoir, the singer detailed a mish-mash of emotions, including “shame,” “gratitude,” “jealousy,” “admiration,” and “gratitude,” about her mother, but ultimately the mother and daughter powered through it all. The megastar dedicated her memoir to her mom. In 2010, they sang a duet for Mariah’s ABC Christmas special and before Patricia’s death, they teamed up for a stage performance.
