Whether you love the original version of the brand new live-action remake, Lilo and Stitch, is a movie that is beloved by Disney fans. With the recent success of the new live-action version, plenty of fans were not surprised when Disney made the big announcement that there would be a sequel to the live-action remake. The sequel will join a long list of recent remakes of our favorite movies, with many more to come.
Lilo and Stitch 2: The Big Announcement
Disney made the big announcement that Lilo and Stitch would be getting a live-action remake on June 26, aka 626 day, a nod to Stitch, also known as experiment 626. The company made the announcement on Instagram, posing a teaser where Stitch drives a pink convertible through Disney’s lot, shouting, “Get ready. Here we go!”
The live-action version of Lilo and Stitch has grossed over $910 million at the global box office. Stitch was also already another money maker for Disney, as he’s greatly beloved by fans. Since he made his debut in 2002, he has been a fan favorite. In 2023, Disney sold $2.6 billion in consumer products featuring the characters from the movies.
What Do We Know?
Besides the big announcement, there isn’t much more information about the upcoming Lilo and Stitch sequel. There was an animated sequel released in 2005 called Stitch Has a Glitch, which was a direct-to-video release. It’s possible that producers could base the next film on that.
There was also an animated show that was shown on the Disney Channel from 2003 to 2006 called Lilo and Stitch: The Series, which showed so many of the other experiments that came before Stitch.
Knowing Disney, though, the upcoming live-action Lilo and Stitch sequel could be a brand new original story. As long as it follows Lilo and our favorite little alien, we’re more than sure it will be an awesome movie. Only time will tell!
