Lil Wayne Drops Release Date Of “Tha Carter VI”

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne is one of the top hip-hop lyricists of today’s generation and has been for many years since the late 1990s. Fans worldwide have been waiting for his next album release for seven years. On Thursday, Dwayne Carter, aka “Lil Wayne,” surprised the hip-hop world and its fans with the release date of Tha Carter VI.

This will be the sixth album written by the man himself since the early 2000s. Fans must wait four months before the album hits all platforms this upcoming summer in June.

Lil Wayne Set to Release “Tha Carter VI” Album in Summer

Lil Wayne dropped the news about his upcoming album during a Cetaphil ad that discussed sensitivity. Originally, the popular rapper/hip-hop artist left much anticipation the day before his big announcement. Hints were shown as actors within the commercial wore jerseys with the album release date numbers.

At 42, Lil Wayne can still capture his listeners and keep audiences engaged with his sharp punch lines and catchy metaphors displayed in a song or on stage. But there is a reason why Lil Wayne pulled this stunt and gave the fans everything they had been waiting for.

Lil Wayne And His Super Bowl Snub

It all started with Super Bowl LIX, played in New Orleans on Sunday. Due to the disappointment of Lil Wayne not performing during the halftime show, his upcoming album may bring out some personal jabs at another artist, such as Kendrick Lamar, who was selected instead of Lil Wayne.

As a result of this shocking news to fans and the city of New Orleans, Lil Wayne will not be in attendance or on the sidelines for Super Bowl LIX this weekend. The hip-hop star told Rolling Stone that the Cetaphil ad was more of a display of strength, stating, “ “Showing a sensitive side isn’t a weakness—it’s a power. There’s nothing more real than turning those types of moments into a display of strength.”

To keep his mind distracted from what Wayne felt was a snub, he will be able to focus on his new project and album in the next several months. Seeing that the city of New Orleans will not get an opportunity to watch their hometown icon perform at halftime, it could very well be a disappointment for fans even though the experience is about Super Bowl LIX.

The commercial ad will be showcased on television Sunday night throughout the game. A positive aspect is that Wayne wished Kendrick Lamar the best as he hits the stage in the coming days. Lamar recently won a Grammy award for his top hit song, “Not Like Us’ a few days ago. That beef is between Drake and Lamar and does not involve Lil Wayne on any level except for the halftime show.

The audience’s reaction to Lamar’s performance will be interesting to watch. Crowd engagement will be key as hip-hop and rap artists all have a variety of styles that are used to tell their own stories through their songs.

Final Thoughts

Personally, I have been a Lil Wayne fan since he began his rap career and chose to become a solo artist. It has been too long since the rapper has released an album. Though he has been featured on different songs with other artists, it is not his own music or his style that is being portrayed on the radio or other music platforms. Truthfully, waiting until the summer will feel like forever, but I believe “Tha Carter VI” could be his best album to date.
