The plot centers around Light Yagami, a high school student who comes across a notebook. This notebook is known as the Death Note, which is owned by a shinigami. The Death Note allows its owner to kill anyone whose name and face they see. Light Yagami used the Death Note to eliminate criminals before targeting innocent people. Light Yagami sees himself as a god getting rid of evil. One of his victims was Naomi Misora, a former FBI agent. Her plan failed after Light Yagami found out her real name.

The scene involving Naomi’s death was emotional, it was intense and gut-wrenching. She was a well-liked character that only lasted a few episodes. Naomi Misora was close to exposing Light as Kira but she was very gullible in the end. Another character that was close to solving the case was L. Between Light and L, it was like good versus evil. Light was the villain while L was the hero. L was too reckless with his plans. It never crossed his mind to stop telling Light Yagami about his plans.

Deception, Power, and Manipulation

Light Yagami is a complex character. Some fans supported Light’s actions, while others defended L’s actions. It became evident that Light Yagami let power consume him. The anime also shines a spotlight on how dangerous power is with Light Yagami.

Light goes to great lengths to maintain his innocence. He deceived everyone into thinking he was innocent. He managed to fool his father, who believed him until his death. Light’s lack of remorse for others corrupted his mind. He discarded his allies to achieve his goal. L’s death is one example of how Light Yagami grinned as one of his friends died.

A Worthy Opponent

Light Yagami met his match with Near and Mello. They were in charge of L’s plan after L failed. Some fans were dissatisfied with the second half of the anime. Fans felt adding Near and Mello messed up the pacing of Death Note. They also felt that L should have been the one to defeat Light. The anime aims to show Yagami’s downfall due to his pursuit of power and manipulation. Near was the closest to being L 2.0. As he pointed out, Light was Kira.

Yagami’s skills were no match for Near. One prime example is when Near had a plan to switch the pages of the Death Note. At first, Light knew about this plan until the warehouse scene. Teru Mikami was Yagami’s main man to write down people’s names in the Death Note. Once Near told everyone to remain calm, Light was upset he lost. This shows that Light Yagami hated losing, especially to those smarter than him. Light used everyone as a pawn until he was caught red-handed.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, Light Yagami can deceive others, as well as go into madness. This makes him an interesting yet frustrating character to defend. He was defeated by Near and Mello, who came up with an excellent strategy. His skills were inconsistent since he could not think straight. He thought only of himself which made him mad with power. Light Yagami tricked everyone except he could not trick Near, Mello, or the detectives in the end. It was a cat-and-mouse game that ended in several tragedies.
