New Legend of Zelda Movie Delayed to May of 2027

Legend of Zelda

Legend of Zelda fans have longed to see an adventure of Link and Zelda on the big screen for years. Their wish is finally coming true with a new live-action Zelda movie coming in 2027. However, now the fans will have to wait a bit longer than they thought.

Legend of Zelda Movie Delayed

The release date for the Zelda movie was originally set for March 26, 2027. Now, Zelda creator and film producer Shigeru Miyamoto stated on X that the new release date is May 7, 2027. Miyamoto said that “we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be.” The film will be directed by Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball. It is currently unknown if the movie will be based on an existing Zelda game or if it will be a completely original story.

Nintendo’s Branch Into Film

2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a massive hit, grossing over $1 billion, and the upcoming sequel is expected to be a similar hit. This means that expectations for the Zelda movie will be high. The decision to release it in May, the beginning of the summer movie season, instead of March could mean that Nintendo’s confidence in the Legend of Zelda movie has been boosted. They’re even willing to release the movie just a few weeks before Star Wars: Starfighter is set to come out.

Is Tom Holland Doing a Legend of Zelda Movie?

A rumor has surfaced that Tom Holland, best known for playing Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man movies, will play Link. It’s also been rumored that Emma Watson (Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies) will play Zelda. However, IMDB currently has no mention of any confirmed actors, so it’s too early to assume anything. Still, Link is a down-to-earth hero that the player can easily identify with, which are qualities that Spider-Man shares. Holland could play Link well if the rumors turn out to be true. Right now, all we can do is wait and see. We can also play the new editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom while we wait.
