On Jan. 17th, Glitch Productions posted a teaser for their upcoming project, Knights of Guinevere. Viewers were stunned to see the indie Australian studio is going 2D. Then came the shocking revelation of who was leading the project, especially to The Owl House fandom. Creator Dana Terrace has finally revealed her next series after a year away from Disney.
Debunking The Owl House Season 4
Terrace was suspected of secretly working on The Owl House’s fourth season back in November 2024. Fans who watched Season 3 didn’t feel satisfied that it became a three-episode finale instead. They also believed that the series’ ending left room for possible spin-offs despite having an epilogue credit scene.
When these rumors began to spread out of control, she immediately addressed it on X (then Twitter). “Nope! Someone’s making s*** up with no proof.” Then Terrace added, “I don’t want to make a Season 4 of The Owl House nor want to center my career around it. But hey, if anything changes, you’d hear it straight from me instead of someone trying to get views on TikTok.” Now after two months, she announced her partnership with Glitch Productions for her new sci-fi thriller, Knights of Guinevere.
Entrusting Glitch Productions
Since 2019, Australian animation studio Glitch Productions has been leading the original projects. Founded by Luke and Kevin Lerdwichugal, they first succeeded with their game sci-fi thriller, Meta Runner. The show was beloved for its original storytelling and the collaboration of small YouTubers who made the project possible. They continued to recruit YouTube animators to create their shows. Liam Vickers and Gooseworx created their two most popular series, Murder Drones and The Amazing Digital Circus.
With The Amazing Digital Circus ending soon, the Lerdwichugals needed to plan for their next show lineup. There is no known information if Glitch Productions was requested by Terrace to greenlit Knight of Guinevere. It is a great honor for an indie studio to have a major-industry animator join them for the first time. The Owl House’s lead writers, John Bailey Owen and Zach Marcus will take charge of the show’s story.
Knights of Guinevere’s Teaser Reaction
At first glance, Knights of Guinevere’s art style is very reminiscent of The Owl House. We see a woman surrounded by woodland critters. She’s blue with purple stars around her hair and sleeping on a stone bed. As her body twitches, the woodland critters assume she is dreaming. Then, the scene quickly transitions to a lab on fire to a woman in what appears to be a CT-scan machine. Instead of the colorful fantasy world, the lab is depicted in black, red, and blue.
The people in the lab appeared to be doctors based on the operating table and tools. The bone saw is visibly connected to the blue streak of blood. Judging by the tentacles from the woman’s right side, her right arm was cut off. Her tentacles and body jerk wildly attempting to break free from the table straps. The doctors acted immediately to put her back into a sleeping state when they cried out, “Oh s***! She’s awake.”
Predicting Knights of Guinevere
Switching Perspective Plot
This is the third show Glitch Productions has produced that messes around with the meta space. By looking at Knights of Guinevere’s teaser in reverse, we can try to piece its plot together. The woman is an android admitted to a secret lab for a parasitic infection. The doctors quickly ran her into an operating room to remove her arm. However, the parasite is hostile which may have given the woman abnormal strength. She was then given sedatives to calm her down and fell into deep sleep.
The doctors strapped her to the operating table and linked her vitals to the operation machine. They are keeping track of her condition to ensure she lives through the operation. For now, we can assume these sedatives could have hallucinogenic properties. In a 2023 clinical study, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) reported that sedatives can cause people to have odd dreams while sleeping. They rarely appear depending on the dosage given to patients. A high dosage is enough to cause the woman to dream she’s a princess.
The woman’s dream sequence combines concepts of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. These two princesses are depicted by their innocence and associated with deep sleep. It’s unknown if Terrace, Owen, and Marcus are taking a jab at Disney when they planned the dream state. Disney has rewritten numerous fairy tales to give their princesses where animals are naturally attracted to their presence. It’s very tragic considering the woman’s reality.
Back in the secret operating room, the woman began to break out of her slumber. She screams in pain as the tentacles wiggle and extend to reach for the closest doctor. Most of her skin was removed from her endoskeleton as the doctors needed to see how far the infection went. These tentacles act as a defense mechanism to protect her body, or in this case, its host.
What Could the ‘Knights’ Refer To?
Knights of Guinevere’s name could be referring more to the doctors. While we do not know the names of these characters, we can assume the woman’s name is Guinevere. I first believed Guinevere could be the princess’ kingdom or land in the dream state. But as I observed the trailer more, no knights were seen in the woman’s fantasy. The only people around her are the two doctors in the operating room.
A knight is often envisioned as a warrior in shining armor to rescue a princess. In modern times, a person of royalty can give the title of ‘knight’ to those who provided great honor and service. The doctors are entrusted to remove the parasite from Guinevere’s body under government orders or someone of a higher power. Their mission is to contain it before it spreads and infects more victims. Their immediate response to sedate her speaks volumes of how drastic the situation is.
No Censorship, No Limits
Dana Terrace made the right choice to move Knights of Guinevere to an indie animation studio. So far, all of Glitch Productions’ shows have not been pressured with limitations to their producers. This may also be the first show that will be for more mature audiences with no censored profanity. The Amazing Digital Circus had censorship due to Kane’s world rules.
The Owl House team also has more creative freedom to see how far their new series will go. This offers them relief as they are no longer restricted by Disney’s show contracts. The Lerdwichugals are dedicated to seeing their projects reach a satisfying ending on their terms. We are excited about where this new venture will take Terrace’s career and are hopeful for the show’s success.
