Just recently, King Charles is set for an overseas trip that includes Australia and Samoa. The best way to learn about a new culture is to have a guest teach you their traditional dance, specifically Samoan dancing. The dance lesson occurred during a special reception of the Commonwealth. The monarch was joined by Commonwealth representatives at St. James’ Palace on Wednesday.

A Commonwealth reception full of warm moments

However, the ex-rugby player and the honorary Samoan consu.l Freddie Tualagi, were also present. Well, the friendly and energetic Tuilagi helped Queen Camilla learn one more aspect of Samoan traditions in such an entertaining manner. The mood was cheerful, with King Charles enjoying the occasion to the hilt. Tuilagi seemingly kept the King dancing during some parts of the reception.

A colorful video on Instagram showed the King being led by Tuilagi while singing a Samoan song and dancing. To illustrate, he started miming and singing and beckoning on Charles, asking him to sing along. The King was tickled and agreed with clear pleasure. Handing his drink to an aide standing next to him, Charles mimicked the movements of Tuilagi to the enjoyment of the spectators.

King Charles’s Interest in Samoan Tradition

Tuilagi said he was glad to see the king had agreed to participate in the cultural lesson. He later told The Sun that he was very delighted with King Charles after the dance experience. Tuilagi went further on to say that he wished to give the monarch a flavor of Samoa before traveling to Samoa himself. He said that he has told his intention to do the same for King Charles in Samoa, as the King plans to visit Samoa with his tour soon.

Tuilagi added, “I said to the King, ‘I’m going to do it for you when you get to Samoa. You’ll experience it again.” King Charles wasn’t alone in hosting the evening. Several senior members of the Royal Family also joined the King, including Queen Camilla, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke of Kent. Their appearance also highlighted the importance of the reception in honor of the Commonwealth since the family only continues to foster relations with various countries.

Final Thoughts: The Upcoming Autumn Tour

This autumn tour will be the first official visit of King Charles to Australia and Samoa in his capacity as the Head of the Commonwealth. King Charles and Queen Camilla will be in both countries from Friday, October 18  Saturday, October 26, 2024, with Samoa likely to be an especially poignant visit due to that shared cultural link.

The first time as the Commonwealth leader, the King is planning to strengthen ties with these nations, and one can say that the King is ready to immerse himself in the cultures of the countries he is to visit soon. Monarchists are looking forward to the tour, seeing that it is aimed at cementing the royal’s position and creating allegiance to the King within the Commonwealth.
