Great news for Looney Toons fans and everyone who has been thwarted by their nemesis: Coyote vs Acme will come to theaters! Ketchup Entertainment, which specializes in acquiring and distributing films, has saved it from the garbage bin. They’ve already released ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Toons Movie.” Reports indicate a release in 2026 but without a specific date. We’ll be keeping our eyes on that for updates.
What Happened
On November 10, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that “Coyote vs Acme” had been scrapped. It came as a shock, causing fans and filmmakers to have such strong reactions that Warner Bros. had a change of heart and allowed the film to be shopped. The same didn’t happen with ‘Batgirl’ or ‘Scoob! Holiday Haunt’ which has stayed scrapped and, presumably, will never be shown.
Ketchup Entertainment came to the rescue and acquired the worldwide rights, opening the door for the film to come to theaters next year. According to Collider, Gareth West, the CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, had this to say:
We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide. Coyote vs Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation.
Coyote vs Acme
‘Coyote vs Acme’ is a blend of live action and animation. The coyote will be an animated character, while the rest of the cast will be live actors. Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor, and Tone Bell star in the film, with Forte playing Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer.
The coyote has decided he’s had enough of the faulty Acme gadgets he uses to try to catch the roadrunner. So, he took legal action and sued the company. That sounds just like a Looney Toons plan, doesn’t it? Let’s hope we see some silly demonstrations of those Acme gadgets. There’s sure to be wackiness, mischief, and fun.
The ‘Coyote vs Acme’ screenplay is by Samy Burch, who also wrote ‘May December.’ It was directed by Dave Green, who is known for ‘Earth to Echo’ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.’ It was produced by Chris deFaria and James Gunn.
