Keanu Reeves Demands an Encore for Johnny Silverhand in Potential Sequel to Cyberpunk 2077

Explore the possibility of Keanu Reeves returning as Johnny Silverhand in the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Creator Mike Pondsmith hints at narrative solutions, while new job listings confirm multiplayer development for the next game.

Keanu Reeves has openly expressed his desire to reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand in the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. For the developers at CD Projekt Red, Reeves just presented a fascinating narrative challenge to bring back the character, who had been dead before the first game even started. So, how exactly does the team accomplish this resurrection?

A Silverhand, Not a Silver Finale

Silverhand’s death isn’t the only thing hindering his return, but it’s also revealed that his digital soul’s fate was determined by player choice. Fortunately, the creator of the entire Cyberpunk universe, Mike Pondsmith, claims he has a few clever ideas for a resurrection that probably doesn’t involve another pesky relic. During a recent stream, Pondsmith enthusiastically discussed the game’s celebrity actors.

Pondsmith confirmed that he shares similar excitement as Reeves about the possibility of Silverhand’s return. He sent a direct message to Reeves that he has ways to make it happen and that they should discuss it. So naturally, this development has led to a bigger question about the game’s future. The character has a complicated history that must be addressed. Given the multiple endings of the first game, how will the writers make Silverhand’s return feel authentic and not forced?

Keanu Reeves is the Hologram Haunting CD Projekt Red

Additionally, Pondsmith marveled at Cyberpunk 2077‘s casting successes, first with Keanu and then with Idris Elba. Alongside these notable actors, his joke offering of a role to Scarlet Johansson proved the studio has ambitious plans for star power. More seriously, he emphasized that these actors’ genuine desire to immerse themselves in their roles was the main reason they were chosen, as their performances resonated so well with players. Given this high-profile interest, will the sequel feature an even more impressive ensemble cast? Meanwhile, development on the next Cyberpunk game continues, with CD Projekt Red actively hiring for a new position.

Specifically, an online engineer is being sought out to build high-performance multiplayer experiences. Given this latest move, Cyberpunk 2 is likely to include some form of multiplayer component. As the studio is clearly aiming to optimize these new systems, a significant expansion may be the main priority rather than the single-player focus of the original title. Combining a compelling story with robust online play has left fans eagerly awaiting the next trip to Night City with a crucial question: Is the team prepared to deliver a seamless multiplayer experience without another rocky launch?
