Theaters everywhere are roaring to life with the arrival of Jurassic World: Rebirth! Long-term fans get to return to the cinematic prehistoric world created by Steven Spielberg. But this time, it’s a combination of the classic setting with the modern atmosphere. The movie excels in many categories, though there’s one that proved a disappointment. Care to learn more about the flick that’ll draw in crowds all summer long? WARNING: This review will contain spoilers, so proceed with caution, like the film’s protagonists.
Summarizing Jurassic World: Rebirth
Rebirth follows a team of humans sent to an island inhabited by dinosaurs. Their job is to acquire DNA samples from three of the location’s largest species. Along the way, they rescue a small civilian family capsized by the Mosasaurus. The two groups become separated, though the main one completes its mission despite some casualties. Everyone rejoins at the island’s abandoned research laboratory, where winged Velociraptors ambush them. Afterwards, they encounter the horrific Distortus Rex, which concludes with the survivors going home.
The Movie’s Pros and Cons
Rebirth‘s overall plot is easy to follow despite its semi-originality. It’s also laced with a tense atmosphere that emphasizes the need for survival. The visuals are, of course, outstanding, whether it’s the surroundings or the creatures. There are even fun references related to the previous films and Michael Crichton. Lastly, the human characters are believable and relatable, and contribute to their scenes.
Sadly, this new Jurassic movie suffers the same setback as its predecessor, Dominion. The Distortus Rex, the supposed antagonist dinosaur, is underutilized during the movie’s duration. All prior marketing gave people the impression that it would constantly terrorize the protagonists. But it doesn’t appear until the climax and feels more like a random animal attack. Hopefully, the D-Rex doesn’t suffer from this flaw should it appear again.
Final Verdict and Thoughts
After going over everything, I give Jurassic World: Rebirth a solid 9 out of 10! The only prominent negative I can see is the underutilization of the Distortus Rex. But I loved everything else about it, from the story to the dinosaurs. There was even a moment between two Titanosaurus that made me tear up. Overall, in my opinion, this is an exciting film worth watching this summer. I know I wouldn’t mind seeing it again to catch anything I might have missed.
