Jurassic Park is one of the most phenomenal films to hit the big screens. Created by Steven Spielberg, it follows a group of survivors on a dinosaur-infested island. The movie birthed a franchise encompassing flicks, toys, television series, and video games. Despite its immense popularity, people often criticized the chain for lacking modern realistic dinosaurs. One YouTuber took it upon themself to fix this by reimagining a famous scene.
An Island Full of Dinosaurs
Based on Michael Crichton’s novel, Jurassic Park explores the theme park created by John Hammond. An animal handler dies from an attack, so the entrepreneur must prove his attraction’s safety. He invites paleontologist Alan Grant and paleobotanist Ellie Sattler to give the green light. At the same time, Hammond’s investors send lawyer Donald Gennaro, who brings chaotician, Ian Malcolm. The group assembles on the island of Isla Nublar, where they discover the park’s secret. Dinosaurs brought back from extinction roam the land, serving as attractions to draw in crowds.
The newcomers learn Hammond’s scientists revived the creatures using preserved blood from amber-trapped mosquitoes. After his grandchildren, Tim and Lex, arrive, the visiting group receives a motorized park tour. Everything goes well until news of a tropical storm approaching cuts things short. To make matters worse, Hammond’s disgruntled programmer sabotages the park and shuts down its security. The dinosaurs escaped their enclosures and cause havoc across the island. Including Tyrannosaurus Rex and highly intelligent yet deadly Velociraptors.
Jurassic Park Expands Throughout the Years
People were immediately enamored with Jurassic Park, making it a box office smash. The secret to its success was the computer generation that brought the dinosaurs to life. Thanks to them, the film obtained the title of highest-grossing movie ever. It sadly lost the crown when James Cameron’s Titanic hit theaters in 1997. Nevertheless, Jurassic Park‘s success led to toy collections, clothing, and lunch boxes. It also motivated Universal Studios to produce sequels and establish a new film series.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 3 became the newest installments. Despite being commercially successful, fans didn’t believe they captured the magic of the first movie. The franchise rebranded in the late 2010s, creating the Jurassic World trilogy. Fans were impressed with the initial installment but not the two that followed. Longtime fanatics collectively agree that Jurassic Park is the best of them. However, that thought doesn’t protect it from people’s critiques in this modern age.
Realistic Raptors Arrive in the Park
A frequent nitpick the Jurassic Park franchise encounters is the lack of scientifically accurate dinosaurs. As the years went by, our understanding of these prehistoric reptiles changed. We used to envision them as all scaly beasts, like in the movies. New scientific evidence showcased that some species had feathers like birds changed things. This information is especially valid for dromaeosaurids like the films’ ever-popular and present Velociraptor. Regardless of this revelation, this movie animal still possesses scaly skin like a lizard.
CoolioArt on YouTube took the initiative and fixed that in a recent video. They created a feathered raptor model and superimposed it onto the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park. These raptors look amazing with their new feathery coats and bird-like mannerisms and movements. They’ve even been renamed Deinonychus, like in the Crichton novel and film’s original concept. The only thing that was left unchanged was the raptors’ signature sounds.
Stunning, Nostalgic, and Educational
I’ve been a fan of Jurassic Park and the entire franchise since childhood. While I adore the original movie Velociraptor designs, CoolioArt’s are immensely impressive. Their avian behavior and movements bring much personality without ruining the memorable scene. It makes me hope they include more scientifically accurate dinosaurs in future films. I’d love to see a canon raptor meet and interact with its feathered counterpart. Until then, we can all still enjoy the Jurassic Park flicks we know and love.
