Judge Shockingly Upholds Julie Chrisleys 84-Month Sentence

Julie Chrisley

A federal judge upheld Julie Chrisley’s resentencing on Wednesday, September 25. Julie will still be serving her original 84-month sentence in jail. The judge refused the Chrisley family’s and lawyers’ requests to reduce Julie’s sentence. She also ruled that the Chrisley matriarch’s initial ruling was sufficient for her charges.

Julie Chrisley’s Resentencing Upheld

A downtown Atlanta judge has upheld Julie Chrisley’s resentencing. The Chrisley Knows Best star was originally sentenced to seven years in jail. As originally decided, she will be released on October 19, 2028. US District Judge Eleanor Ross refused Julie and her family’s request for less time in prison. Ross ruled that Julie’s sentence was sufficient for her tax evasion and bank fraud charges. Although she acknowledged that the children needed their mom, she claimed Julie had to pay for her crimes.

“I am concerned about the children but [with] all due respect, you don’t get a pass from criminal conduct because you’re a parent,” Ross said during Julie Chrisley’s resentencing. “It saddens me every time I see children going through that,” the judges added of the Chrisley family’s situation. However, she reiterated that parents are the ones responsible for doing that to their children.

Julie Chrisley Got A Low Sentence Originally

Ross added that she considered several factors when originally giving Julie’s sentence. Among them were the matriarch’s age, health, and caretaker status of her children and aged parents. She revealed that the sentence was lower than the rules prescribed and what prosecutors requested. Ross stated that Julie Chrisley’s resentencing would remain the same as the original. This was because the original sentence was not based on the money lost or the years Julie participated in the crime.

Moreover, Ross revealed during Julie Chrisley’s resentencing that she received several letters for leniency from members of the Chrisley family, including Savannah. A licensed therapist for Grayson and Chloe also wrote to the judge. However, Ross explained that she has sentenced many people with young children to prison. Meanwhile, most didn’t have access to the resources and support system the Chrisley children have.

Julie Chrisley Offers Emotional Apology

After the judge delivered Julie Chrisley’s resentencing, the Chrisley Knows Best alum broke down. Julie, looking unrecognizable with her brown hair, apologized to her children while crying. She apologized for her actions and how they have impacted her family. Julie said she has had time to think about what she did and how to “apologize for my actions that led to where we are today.” The former reality TV star said she reflected on her actions in the months leading to her conviction and while serving her sentence. She has also been trying her best to be closer to her family. Julie disclosed that she’s learning new skills, including “driving a forklift and serving food” properly.

Savannah Vows to Fight Julie Chrisley’s Resentencing

Todd and Julie Chrisley appealed their sentences in December 2022. In June 2024, a judge vacated Julie’s sentence but upheld Todd’s. The Chrisley children have been upfront about their challenges since their parents were sentenced. They have also tried various means to get their parents released early. Chase Chrisley, one of their children, spoke about Todd and Julie’s awful prison conditions in 2023. Julie’s daughter, Savannah has also been vocal about getting Todd and Julie out quickly.

Before Julie Chrisley’s resentencing, Savannah shared an update on her podcast, Unlocked with Savannah. She asked people to pray with her and hoped the judge would give her mom leniency. Savannah further posted the update on her Instagram. She also spoke with ABC and claimed that her parents were innocent. Following Julie Chrisley’s resentencing, Savannah and their lawyer, Alex Little, vowed to keep fighting. Savannah also argued that Julie Chrisley’s resentencing was an “injustice.”

Conclusion

Julie Chrisley’s resentencing stunned her family, who had hoped for leniency. However, the family has vowed not to relent in getting Todd and Julie out sooner. It appears they will further challenge Julie Chrisley’s resentencing. Only time will tell if they eventually get their wishes.
