JoJos Bizarre Adventure – Stardust Crusaders – Review Part I – Its Gets Better

When one thinks of JoJos Bizarre Adventures the Part that comes to mind is the Stardust Crusaders. And with good reason. The story arc that makes up season 02 of the manga-inspired anime is an adventure story through and through. It features some of the most memorable characters in the entire series and is often considered to be among the best adaptions of the manga to the screen.

Stardust Crusaders takes the core elements that made the first season, encompassing two parts: Phantom Blood & Battle Tendency so good: interesting characters, unique enemies with varied powers, complex worlds, and an engrossing narrative and structures them into a virtually globe-spanning adventure. Featuring the next generation of Josestars and one old, who embark on a new journey to counter an age-old enemy.

A New Power Structure Brings New Thrills

Season one of JoJos Bizarre Adventure was all about the use of Hamon: the type of magic-infused martial arts that combines self-control with energy generation and projection. This power and its unique and variegated uses were showcased wonderfully in the first season of the show which is taken to the next level in season two. This time around we follow the next great heir of Joestar bloodline, Jotaro Kujo as he embarks on a great adventure with his grandfather Joseph Joestar and the other companions and eventual friends they meet along the way.

The newest addition to the second season is the ‘Stand’. The true nature of the Stand is difficult to grasp but essentially they are the energy projections that emerge from the inner power of the user. A more advanced manifestation of Hamon energy, each Stand is unique to the user, and in part reflects his/her personality and innate abilities. The Stand can be anything from extendable creepers to ghostly sword-wielding knights, to fire birds that shoot out flames. These unique Stand abilities add a greater level of novelty to this Part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

What sets great anime and manga apart from ordinary ones is the ability to draw the interest of the viewer and maintain it for the duration of the show. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders does just that. In the course of the first 16 episodes that we are looking at today, the anime is able to draw you in with its interesting narrative that builds on the conflicts and relationships of Joestars of yesteryear. The multi-generational conflict that started between Jonathan Joestar and the main antagonist Dio, continues as the heroes go in search of a cure for Joseph Joestar’s ailing daughter.

The main feature that draws the viewer right in are the unique Stands that the bad guys showcase, and how these come to test our heroes. The survival skills, street-smarts and wisdom of all of our heroes: Jotaro Kujo, Joseph Joestar, Mohammed Avdol, Noriaki Kakyoin and Jean Pierre Polnareff are thoroughly tested by the array of Stand-using bad guys they have to confront. No two Stand users are the same and thus the story twists and turns in accordance.

Stardust Crusaders – A Great Adventure

Whether you are a fan of anime or are simply on the lookout for a good adventure story, JoJos Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders provides all the action, thrills, and excitement you can ask for. Admittedly some of the humor may not be for everyone’s liking but the anime is great overall. If you haven’t given it a go, now is the time.
