The newest trailer for ‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina’ has finally been released online, so close to its June 6th release date. Is this a film that we need, though? The John Wick series itself has been one of the most successful action series to this day, and with the exception of a TV series spinoff called ‘The Continental’, not being a big hit with the critics and fans alike, each movie has been one action-packed roller coaster ride after another. So, can the ballerina dance in the world of John or will she fall flat on her butt?
Dancing into Action
This movie is about a train to assassin played by Ana de Armas, who is out for revenge against her father’s killers. Familiar faces are expected to return, including Keanu Reeves as John, Ian McShane as Winston, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick as Charon, with newcomers Gabriel Byrne as the Chancellor and Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine. De Armas is expected to take on everyone who comes in her way, including Mr. Wick himself.
It will be interesting to see this character not only take on John Wick in the assassin of that world, but also to see if someone else can carry the John Wick series in their own movie. If you’ve ever seen Ana de Armas in action before, then you know she can do it. The best example of an action scene she’s done is in ‘007: No Time to Die’, where we see her for just one part of that movie kicking butt next to Daniel Craig’s James Bond.
Will This Work Without John Wick?
The one question that keeps getting asked, though, is “What is the timeline of this movie”? This movie is set to take place between John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum and Chapter 4, which solves the “How is John Alive?” question that a lot of fans are asking. This is not uncommon for a film series to fit a movie in between the main timeline.
A good example of a movie series doing this is the Alien film series with Alien: Romulus, which is set between Alien and Aliens. Will this movie be able to expand on that timeline in the world of John Wick? Or will it be a dud? My hopes are high for this movie, especially since they have an actress who has proven that she can take a role like this and bring depth to it.
From the World of Ballerina is set to hit theaters on June 6th, 2025.
