To support his upcoming children’s lullaby album, My Favorite Dream, Grammy award-winning artist John Legend enlisted some help from his immediate family. To introduce the world to his new creative endeavor, John Legend released the first single “L-O-V-E” on Aug. 9. The soulful singer sings on the Sufjan Stevens-produced track. John is joined in the chorus by his wife, Chrissy Teigen, and children Miles and Luna.

The inspiration behind the new John Legend offering started simply for the 12-time Grammy Award winner. My Favorite Dream began on one of Legend’s days off from work. According to Parents, Tiegen suggested her husband play the viral hit song “Maybe,” for their third child, Esti. As a fan of the Fisher-Price Kick & Play Piano Gym, Esti was all in regarding the purple monkey in a bubblegum tree song, especially with her dad singing it.
In a video post on the official John Legend Instagram account, he states, “Just me over here covering Esti’s play mat bops.” Legend is shown performing his rendition of the popular song while Tiegan and Esti enjoy the show. The crooner’s family-time video sparked the interest of Fisher-Price, who expressed interest in doing a collaborative project.

My Favorite Dream is a 15-track album that Legend created for both children and parent audiences in mind. According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the John Legend/Sufjan Stevens collaboration includes messages that he and Teigen hope their children will remember and carry with them. On an Instagram post, Legend said the topics include words of encouragement, comfort, love, togetherness, imagination, exploration, and, above all else, going to sleep.
In the post, Legend continues to talk about the first single, “L-O-V-E.” According to Legend, anyone who knows him knows he loves two things – “singing and talking about LOVE.” He wrote that he believes in the power of love and its ability to uplift people. Just as this project started with his family, so did the first release. Legend described “L-O-V-E” as the signature anthem for the album. In the lyrics, he even said love is his favorite word.
Family Support
For the first release from My Favorite Dream, Legend enlisted the artistic design of his daughter, Luna. In addition, the 8-year-old provided the artwork for all the singles that will be released. Luna and Miles earned their first album credits as background vocalists for “L-O-V-E.”

John Legend released My Favorite Dream on Friday. To test the abilities of the album, the first single was sent to a long-time musical bff who just happens to have three children under two years of age. The message was received with an initial laugh, as the music of John Legend is far removed from his typical playlist. However, within minutes, his response was, “Thanks, the kids actually like it.”
