Jamie Lee Curtis Confirmation Hits Home For One Piece Fans

Jaime Lee Curtis

For many One Piece fans, Jamie Lee Curtis was the perfect part for the role of Doctor Kureha. After the major success of its first season of the live-action adaptation, Netflix’s casting for the popular and long-running series has been nothing but perfect. Now with its second season about a year away, some new cast members have been name-dropped. Those that have already been announced seem to be great choices, as there are even more major characters that have yet to be revealed from the manga to live-action.

Jamie Lee Curtis Not Joining Cast

As confirmed by Deadline, it was stated that Curtis will no longer be able to be in the upcoming new season of One Piece‘s live-action due to scheduling conflicts. Becky Clements, executive television producer for Tomorrow Studios, said in an interview that the star actress “loves the show,” but had to pass due to the dates not aligning as it became too “complicated to schedule.”.

With 47 years of acting in her career, Jamie Lee Curtis is a world-renowned Hollywood actress, known for her involvement in the Halloween franchise, and is also a film producer. The slasher star is also in the recent video game adaptation movie, Borderlands, dropping in theatres on August 9th. The task of finding an actress of her caliber to fill in will be tough, but still possible based on their casting so far.

Academy Award Winner Perfect for Role

Jamie Lee Curtis seemed to be made for the role of Kureha, as her announcement of not being able to participate in One Piece‘s live-action series was unfortunate. She posted on Instagram during the SAG-AFTRA strike last year an artwork of her as Kureha, as fans were supportive of the actress potentially joining the fandom. The Freaky Friday and Everything Everywhere All at Once actress was a popular casting choice for fans. When Curtis’ involvement with her projects came up, it became clear the dream for fans of the manga would not happen for the live-action.

Other cast members for supporting characters were announced last month on One Piece’s Netflix X page for the second season with a new executive team. This includes Clive Russell as Crocus, Brendan Murray as Brogy, and Werner Coetser as Dorry. Not to mention Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, Rob Colletti as Wapol, Tyrone Keogh as Dalton, and Callum Kerr as Smoker. This is on top of their main five, with Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Season 2 Tentative Summer 2025 Release

The sequel season for the hit live-action action on Netflix, One Piece, will likely get its adaptation released sometime next summer. While the release date is unknown, it is currently in production and has released some new cast additions for the upcoming hyped Arabasta Arc. Characters like Mr. 3, Mr. 5, Mr. 9, and Miss Valentine are involved in Baroque Works and have been announced as David Dastmalchian, Camrus Johnson, Daniel Lasker, and Jazzara Jaslyn, respectively.

Dastmalchian headlines this group, as he was great in his lead role in Late Night With The Devil, which came out earlier this year. The live-action second season officially began its development two months ago, as popular characters from the manga like Kureha and Tony Chopper have yet to release their real-life counterparts. Both characters play major roles in Eiichiro Oda’s long-running series, and it will hurt that Curtis won’t be in it for fans of the popular anime.
