James Gunn’s DC Studios announces the Mister Miracle animated series, bringing the beloved superhero to life in a bold new adult animation from DC. This was just announced by Warner Bros. Animation along with the studio on Thursday as Gunn’s DCU moves forward. The series itself will be based on the comic written by Tom King and its artist Mitch Gerads, with King serving as showrunner and executive producer. This will be the 2nd adult animated show brought into this iteration of the DCU, along with Creature Commandos, which is currently in the middle of production for season 2.

What Is the Story?

This series is going to be based on the Eisner award-winning “Mr. Miracle” comic book series by Tom King and Mitch Gerads, in which we follow the life of Scott Free and his wife, Big Barda. Things are great with them until each one of their home worlds, New Genesis and Apokolips, go to war against each other over the most dangerous weapon in the universe, the Anti-Life Equation. His father, Darkseid, is dead set on having this weapon to rule all of the universe, which in turn will test Mr. Miracle and his wife to the boiling point.

Who is Mister Miracle?

Mr. Miracle made his debut in his self-titled comic book in April 1971 and was created by the legendary comic book artist, Jack Kirby. He is considered to be one of the “New Gods” who was traded by his biological parents for Darkseid’s son as a means to stop the war between the New Genesis and Apokolips. He grew up in one of Granny Goodness’ “Terror Orphanages,” not knowing where he originally came from. As he grew, he started to rebel against Apokolips and Darkseid’s way of thinking. Scott would later meet his wife, and they would escape to Earth to live their lives.

The Tone of the Series as James Gunn Invisions

With past DC shows like “Harley Quinn”, the tone was not only comedic but crude, rude, and had some attitude. The same can be said with creature commandos, where it was not only action-packed, but it had humor. I’m expecting the same for this show to not only be entertaining but to have its tone and not take itself too seriously. That’s what makes these shows their own identity and why people are set to enjoy them so much.

As of now, there is not much more information about the upcoming animated show, but DC Studios and WBA have both said that more information will be released. Expect this show to premiere on HBO Max.
