Ice Spice has been enjoying the fruits of her labor without releasing an album. She celebrated four Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits in 2023 and amassed an equal amount of Grammy nominations this year. With heavy momentum, the Bronx rapper built much anticipation for her debut album. To support her first full album, Y2K!, Ice Spice played shows in Europe ahead of the album release date in early July. An American tour kicked off on July 30, just a few days following the drop of Y2K!
Millennium Inspiration
The title of the debut offering from Ice Spice is said to be inspired by the 2000s. The artist was born Isis Gaston on January 1, 2000, and the iconic birthday theme is something she showcases. Her career began when she went viral after releasing a music video for the song “Munch.” In her artist profile on Rolling Stone, “Munch” blended pop music in a “pitch-perfect blend” with New York drill, a style that is becoming influential in hip-hop music.
In 2023, Ice Spice released an EP titled Like…? with the help of producer RiotUSA. The four-track release included a remix of “Princess Diana,” which features rapper Nicki Minaj. The song peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and showcased Ice Spice’s laid-back delivery.

Ice Spice’s Y2K! album features 10 tracks and is under a half-hour in length. According to a review on Billboard.com, the album continues to capitalize on her drill style of rapping and effortless charisma. The album also features major collaborations. Travis Scott is featured on “Oh Shhh…”, Gunna is featured on “B–h, I’m Packin’,” and Central Cee is featured on “Did it First?” One of the singles released on May 10, “Gimmie A Light,” featured Ice Spice’s drill over the iconic track by Sean Paul, “Gimmie the Light.”
What’s Next
Ice Spice has dedicated her website to all things Y2K. With the new album cover as the landing page, fans can scroll down to see merchandise featured in Microsoft-inspired software. The female rapper kicked off her U.S. tour Friday at the Marquee Theatre in Phoneix, Arizona, and at The Factory in Deep Ellum in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday. The tour will also include shows in Houston, Atlanta, and Miami.
Final Thoughts
If you were a youth during Y2K, a review of this album will bring back many memories. The drill style of rapping is something Ice Spice thrives on and should continue doing. The Bronx rapper has already created a name for herself; without her new album, Y2K!, will her fame explode even further with her new hot singles? We’ll have to wait and see.
