Jujutsu Kaisen has been an insanely popular manga and anime series ever since 2018. In Shonen Jump, the most popular magazine for Shonen manga, sticking out is a really tough feat to accomplish. Many series get introduced one day, then a couple chapters down the line, get canceled. Jujutsu Kaisen has not only beaten cancellation, but it has become a colossal series in the anime sphere.
The anime got its first season in 2021, three years after the manga started in 2018. The second season of the anime aired in the summer of 2023, and was just as, if not more popular than the first season. With the anime’s success, more people than ever have been in love with the series. The manga however, is on its last arc. Many fans have been dying to answer the question of “how will this series end?”.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Author
Jujutsu Kaisen’s author, Gege Akutami, is pretty infamous in the manga community. His infamous nature is solely due to how he writes this series. Jujutsu Kaisen is a series known for killing off many of its main characters. There won’t be any spoilers in this article, but if you’re a fan, you certainly understand what is being referenced here.
Gege Akutami has said in a recent interview that the series will end in about the next year or two. This was about a year ago. Akutami’s original plan was to end the series in 2023, but things got a bit out of schedule, and now, his goal seems to be to end it in 2024. This makes a ton of sense. The manga right now is currently in its final arc. There isn’t much more that can be done to extend the run time, at least in a satisfying way.
Finishing a Manga is Hard
It must be said, but ending a running series like Jujutsu Kaisen will be no small feat. This series is insanely popular. Look at how beloved the anime is. Look at how fans adore characters like Gojo and Toji. This series is huge, so Akutami has a lot to worry about when it comes to ending it. Particularly, making the ending satisfying is a challenging feat for many writers.
How many manga authors create an incredible series and end it in a way that is deemed unsatisfying to readers? Look at Attack on Titan. Attack on Titan is called by many to be the anime of our generation. It ran for a decade and was so wide-reaching and popular. But many fans hated the ending. Ever hear the expression “it’s not about how you start, but how you finish”? Manga authors know how important a satisfying ending is to their series.
How Will Jujutsu Kaisen End?
Akutami knows how important it is for him to nail this ending. If there’s one thing fans can agree on for Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s that it is very unpredictable. So, where will this series go? Well, in the final current arc, it’s pretty much everyone who is on the side of good, fighting the king of curses, Ryomen Sukuna. It’s been full of pulse-pounding, hype moments that have left the manga community on the edge of their seats week to week.
Many fans have theorized that maybe Sukuna will win. It seems like it. He has had an answer for everything Yuji Itadori and his allies can throw at him. This writer believes that Yuji and his friends will win, but who knows? This series has thrown some major curve balls at the fans. It’s only a matter of time until it ends, and the Jujutsu Kaisen community can’t wait to see it. Here’s hoping Akutami ends the series on a high note.
