There has been a lot of talk lately about Midheaven in astrology circles and online. Searches bring up questions like “What exactly is midheaven?” “What does it have to do with my sun/moon sign?” “What effect does it have on my personality, my life, my being?” “How do I find my midheaven?” “How does Midheaven relate to the other aspects on my natal or birth chart?”
While in this article I may not be able to tell you about your specific midheaven, I can answer all of these questions for you so you know where and how to answer these questions on a more personal basis.
What is Midheaven?
Midheaven, or MC, is the point at the top of your natal chart with the 9th and the 10th house meet, the cusp between the two houses. It’s known at the Medium Coeli, middle of the sky in Latin, and influences your career path, your goals and achievements, your public reputation, and social standing.
To find your midheaven, you can have your natal chart done on websites like Cafe Astrology.com or Astrolab.com. Once you have your chart, gaze at the 10th house, towards the top on the left. The planets or signs in the 10th house nearest the cusp between the 9th and 10th houses are your midheaven. This is the planet/ sign that can give you these insights.
How Does the Midheaven Affect My Life?
If you want to know how the people in your life will see you, especially in your public and career life, the sign in your midheaven will give you this information. Your midheaven can give you insights into your talents and gifts. It can help you understand how you can best contribute to our world professionally. It tells you how you will present yourself publicly and can help you decide on what career path might be best for you.
For example, Scorpio is in my Midheaven, and Scorpio is ruled by Pluto. This tells us that I am curious, and am not afraid to take risks. However, on a good day, I am ambitious and alluring. However, on bad days, I can be relentless in my desire for control. Positions that are good for me would be teaching, detective, scientist, and anything that is looking for new information. I was a teacher for 20 years and now I am a writer. Makes sense.
How Does Midheaven Effect Other Areas of My Chart?
How people see you is an important aspect of your personality profile, no matter what house you are looking at. The 7th house, Libra, represents partnerships. How people see you is going to affect your partnerships. If you are strong-willed to the point of arrogance, you’re going to push people away. If you are a caretaker, many will gravitate towards you.
The 9th house, Sagittarius, is the house of transformation. Scorpio in the 10th house bodes well for the 9th house as learning is a high point, curiosity and always wanting to know more along with ambition and the desire to always win.
If your Midheaven is Cancer, you might want to choose a career where you can be nurturing, someone who is a caregiver. Your superpower might be empathy and insight which makes you uniquely talented when understanding the needs of others.
