Houston Rapper BeatKing Dead at 39

BeatKing, a rapper and producer from Houston also known as Club Godzilla, died on Thursday. In an Instagram post on August 15, BeatKing’s manager, Tasha Felder, confirmed that he had died. People on social media were shocked when the rapper’s manager posted on his Instagram page that he had died. He was 39 years old. Singer and producer Justin Riley, who made songs like “Then Leave” and “Scream,” was a big deal in Houston’s underground scene.

BeatKing, a rapper from Texas who also went by the name Club Godzilla, has died. He was 39 years old. Tasha Felder, the Texas artist’s manager, confirmed his death on Thursday in a post on social media. Felder wrote, “We lost BeatKing today, August 15, 2024.” He has been the best thing about the club for more than ten years. He has produced and collaborated with so many artists that his sound will last forever.” She added, “He adored his daughters, music, and fans. We will love him forever.”

The artist, whose legal given name was Justin Riley, had two daughters. Club Godzilla is remembered by fans and well-known people in the music industry, including Three 6 Mafia and Bun B, a rapper and businessman from Houston who worked with him. In an Instagram post about him, Bun B said, “He was a great-spirited person.” A skilled artist and father was taken away from us.” Juicy J also posted a video of himself and the hitmaker onstage, captioned “RIP @clubgodzilla. I’ll miss you, man.” 

Cause of Death

Felder told PEOPLE that the rapper died on Thursday at a Houston hospital from a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot in the lung that blocks blood flow. “He was at an Urban One station doing a morning takeover when he suddenly fainted,” the statement said. “He was taken to a nearby hospital and later died. Throughout the whole time, he was accompanied by his daughters. It’s so sad; we loved him.”

Who is BeatKing

If you’ve ever been to a Houston or Dallas hip-hop club or even just listened to the radio, you’ve most likely heard  Club Godzilla. Since he released “Gangsta Stripper Music,” “Astroworld,” and “Twerk It for Vine” in the early 2010s, he has been an integral part of the Houston club scene. Justin “Club Godzilla” Riley, who was born November 24, 1984, first experienced music when he was a kid and played the drums with his mother.

When “Crush” from his album Kings of the Club came out in the summer of 2010, it was a big hit on the radio and in clubs. He was also known for his 2020 single “Then Leave,” which went viral on TikTok and the radio in Houston with Queendom Come, and his 2022 single “Toot That” with Erica Banks.

He has worked with artists such as Ludacris, Juicy J, Slim Thug, and more. He is known for his strong lyrics, heavy basslines, and ability to keep the club’s energy high. His most recent album, Never Leave Houston On A Sunday, was released in July. BeatKing’s Facebook page says that he went to Booker T. Washington High School.
