Sunbeam Oven Recall: French Door Countertop Models Pulled Over Burn Risk
Listen up, home chefs and kitchen gadget enthusiasts! That fancy Sunbeam countertop oven you snagged might just be a little too eager to say “hello.” And by “hello,” I mean by unexpectedly snapping its French doors shut on your arm. Ouch.
Sunbeam Products, in coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has officially issued an oven recall for over a million of its Oster French Door Countertop Ovens. Why the sudden alarm? Well, it turns out the spring-loaded doors have a rather nasty habit of closing when you least expect it, creating a serious burn hazard. Imagine reaching in for your perfectly crisped tater tots, only for the hot glass doors to decide they’ve had enough of being open. Not exactly the kitchen experience anyone signs up for.
Which Models Are Affected by the Oven Recall?
This isn’t some minor issue. We’re talking about a massive recall of approximately 1.29 million units sold in the U.S. and another 104,195 in Canada. There have already been 95 reports of the doors slamming shut, leading to burn injuries, two of which were second-degree burns. Yikes!
So, you should probably check your oven right now. The recall targets four specific models:
- TSSTTVFDXL
- TSSTTVFDDG
- TSSTTVFDMAF
- TSSTTVFDDAF
You can find the model number on a label on the back of the oven. These units were sold at major retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, and Walmart, as well as online through Amazon and Overstock, from August 2015 to July 2025. They retailed for between $140 and $250.
What Should You Do if Your Oven is Recalled?
First things first: stop using the oven immediately. I know, it’s a pain, but a second-degree burn is way more inconvenient.
Sunbeam is offering a free repair kit to solve the problem. This isn’t some complicated, send-it-back-and-wait-for-weeks ordeal. The kit includes a simple clip-on device that adds extra force to keep those feisty doors open while you’re reaching inside. According to Sunbeam, you won’t even need tools to install it, and they’re providing instructions and a QR code for an installation video.
To get your free repair kit, contact Sunbeam Products toll-free at 800-334-0759 or visit their recall website at recall.oster.com. Don’t put it off—protect your arms from becoming an unwilling part of your next meal. Stay safe out there, foodies!
