Belkin Recall: Power Banks and Wireless Chargers for Dangerous Risk of Fire
A Belkin recall continues the parade of product recalls. The Belkin Portable Power Banks and Wireless Charging Stands, once celebrated for their convenience, have been officially recalled due to a rather unfortunate tendency to spontaneously combust. It seems these devices took their job of providing power a little too seriously, transforming themselves into potential fire hazards.
The lithium-ion batteries within these gadgets have a penchant for overheating, posing a significant risk of fire and burns. Belkin has received one report of a fiery incident in the U.S. and a further fifteen internationally. These events have led to two minor burn injuries and property damage, tallying a respectable $37,765. It’s a small price to pay for innovation, some might say, but your insurance company probably disagrees.
What Products Are Affected by the Belkin Recall?
Before your workspace becomes an impromptu bonfire, it’s wise to check if you own one of the recalled devices. This Belkin recall affects approximately 83,500 units sold in the United States, with an additional 2,385 units in Canada.
The products involved in the Belkin recall include:
- Charging Stand: Model number MMA008 with serial numbers beginning with “57X.”
- Power Bank: Model number BPB002 with serial numbers starting with “35S.”
- Power Bank: Model number PB0003 (all serial numbers are included in this recall).
These products were sold at major retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, as well as online through Belkin.com, Amazon, and even TikTok, between August 2020 and August 2025. They were priced from a modest $29 to a more ambitious $180, proving that you can’t always put a price on safety—or lack thereof.
What Should You Do With Your Recalled Belkin Product?
If you find yourself in possession of one of these flammable friends, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges you to stop using it immediately. Unplug it, back away slowly, and resist the urge to see what happens.
Belkin, in a gesture of corporate responsibility, is offering a full refund or store credit. To claim your compensation, you’ll need to submit photos of the product. If you have the receipt, you’ll get the full purchase price back. If not, you’ll receive the average sales price. Or, if you’re feeling lucky and want to double down on your brand loyalty, you can opt for a store credit worth 20% more than the average price.
Caution Alert
Do not simply toss the devices from the Belkin recall in the trash. Their lithium-ion batteries require special disposal. Your local household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center may take them off your hands, but it’s best to call ahead and confirm. Let’s not add “environmental hazard” to their already tarnished legacy.
