High Potential took television by storm when it started last year. Its two engaging stars, intriguing storylines, and a talented supporting cast all helped the show achieve and maintain a strong and loyal viewership. Plus, the play between Gillory and Karadec is great, probably because they’re opposites… or not. Both Kaitlin Olson (Morgan Gillory) and Daniel Sunjata (Adam Karadec) do a brilliant job of antagonizing each other and solving crimes.
What’s High Potential About?
A brief rundown of the show is that Morgan was a professional building cleaner who happened to see some clues that detectives had missed. By simply rearranging something on a crime board, she uncovered a major clue. After the police solved the crime because of Morgan’s impressive intelligence and sharp observation, they hired her as a consultant. She’s partnered with reluctant, seasoned, and jaded detective Karadec.
High Potential: A Few Fun Facts
A HPI is a haut potentiel intellectuel – or a high-potential intellectual. Typically, a HPI person would have an 160 IQ and a keen sense of observation. A photographic memory usually goes along with this, as well as adept problem-solving skills. The American show High Potential is based on the French show, HPI Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, a successful program that’s been on French TV for several years.
Kaitlin Olson, the star, is best known for her role on The Mick and her voice work. Sunjata is best known for his roles as James Holt on The Devil Wears Prada and as Briggs on Graceland. Speaking of Graceland, Deniz Akdeniz, who plays Oz, a supporting cast member, was also in it. Javicia Leslie, who plays Daphne, played Ryan Wilder in Batwoman.
High Potential Adds a New Captain
With the fall season right around the corner, we’ll likely see a few changes. While it’s unclear if Judy Reyes (Soto) is moving on, there will be a new police captain on board. Steve Howey (of Reba and Happy’s Place) will portray Jesse Wagner, described as “a savvy political animal who knows how to wear an expensive suit and oozes effortless charm.” Hmm. We’ll have to see how his personality intersects with Morgan and Detective Karadec. Also, will he help Morgan on her quest to find Roman?
Another exciting change is that Kaitlin Olson will now be executive producer on the program. She was a producer for season one. We’re happy to see that she’s reaching a “high potential” on this show!
